November 16, 200619 yr Are the Dems as United as they would like us to think? And she hasn't even oficially taken the post yet. Hoyer elected majority leader over Murtha who was nominated and supported by Pelosi.

November 16, 200619 yr A question? Does the new Senators who have not officially started their term get to vote?
November 16, 200619 yr Author I didn't think they got a vote until January 3. Not on legislation but I'm fairly sure they get to vote on leadership positions. There were 235 votes cast. I'm not sure what the number of Dems in the house will be. Here's another article saying that the defeat was an embarassment for Pelosi, saying Democrats defied her.
November 16, 200619 yr Good for the Democrats. Pelosi's going to be on a tight leash, it appears, and it appears moderates are using their election impact to also dictate what will be in her bowl. Republicans should follow suit.

November 16, 200619 yr This is minor and will soon fade. It sounds like she let her personal feelings get in the way and it cost her. That's a rookie mistake which is very understandable. I agree that it sounds like the rank and file will be flexing some muscles to let leadership know how they want them to lead. I think that's a good thing and something the republicans need to learn.

November 17, 200619 yr anxious to see how well Trent Lott cooperates with the administration, whom he is not fond of. Could be intresting.
November 17, 200619 yr Author I predict that Republicans as a whole will be just as cooperative as the Dems were as the minority party. And before you say anything about this election showing the will of the people as I recall two tears ago when OUR President was re-elected and when the majority in both houses grew for Republicans the Dems played that off as being a minor technicality.
November 17, 200619 yr anxious to see how well Trent Lott cooperates with the administration, whom he is not fond of. Could be intresting. Lott is not there to cooperate with the administration. Lott is there for political maneuvering which is he is very good at. He will tie up the Demos with political posturing and maneuvering.
November 17, 200619 yr Lott is not there to cooperate with the administration. Lott is there for political maneuvering which is he is very good at. He will tie up the Demos with political posturing and maneuvering. All we need is 9 votes from across the asile. I like our those odds, best we've had in years.
