From what I've read that may be tough to do on some of the issues. It will be interesting to see how the new leaders on both sides operate in the new environment.

The culture of corruption is very well established, and has been for at least 40 years. It has done exceedingly well over the last 20 years in particular. So if liberal issues are being considered, will those Democrats show that they have the backbone to stand to their principals, act as they said they would in the election and vote against the Democratic party OR vote Democrat regardless of what they told their voters they would do. All Democrats are not Nancy Pelosi. I don't believe she would have a chance to get elected in a good part of the country.

I was just having a little fun. I actually believe (hope) that both parties might be getting the message that the voters are fed up. I have to admit it will be hard for the democrats to do worse than the republicans have the past several years (in regards to ethics). It might not be a bad idea to have the power in congress switch back and forth more often than 12 years. That might prevent the arrogance that seems to form in the leadership after a certain time in power. Maybe 2 years would be good starting in January.

Well, I can't argue the ethical failings of some of the Republicans with you, but I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the "other shoe" from the Abramoff scandal will soon be dropping. It appears that many of those caught in the fallout will be Democrats that are every bit as corrupt as the worst of the Republicans. Oddly, I have also heard that Rove might be named by Abramoff as well (which surprises me to some degree). Stay tuned for further developments.... Film at 11... Frances

Reid from Nevada was able to pretty much lay low and the media didn't hound him, now that could change. Especially with the Abramoff dealings. ABSCAM was there and had been there for a long time and the media could have used it prior to the elections, but didn't now Dem members trudged it out to defeat Nancy's first choice. Heck, the NYT took a shot at Pelosi. That is almost unheard of.

When Pelosi was touting Murtha, folks were saying "he's too liberal"; "he's tainted by scandal", etc. etc. Now that Hoyer gets the spot, folks are saying "The Dems are not united", "Pelosi suffers setback", etc. etc. Interesting that folks are opining that Lott's job is to stymie the Dems (as opposed to working cooperatively). That's a sad commentary on the workings of government, but undoubtedly true.
