State Cross-Country

At the Kentucky Horse Park on Nov. 11, Trinity captured the 3A championship with 69 points. Woodford County finished second with 141.

My nephew who is a Freshman runs for Lloyd Memorial, he finished 21st in the State Boys Class AA yesterday. This is his first year running CC, I thought that was an impressive performance. I was down at the horse park and watched the Class A & Class AA Boys & Girls race and then we took off to go over to the UK/ Vandy football game. The conditions for the Class A Boys * Girls race were bad, raining, cold & windy but they improved as the day moved on. Congrats go out to everybody that competed out there.

Anyone know anything about Class A?

Class A boys was won by St. Henry for the 5th year in a row. The Crusaders had 5 runners in the top fifteen. Second was Bishop Brossart, third was Covington Holy Cross and fourth was Lexington Christian. They edged out Green County by one point. 6th place was Somerset.

Hats off to the LCA Eagles, who were unranked in the state two weeks ago and took fourth in the state. They are a young team (4 sophmores and 2 freshmen) and lost just two seniors. Their top four runners will be returning.

One of my very good friend's sons runs CC for St X. (Dad is an X grad also.) Saturday night a bunch of us were out relaxing and the mostly Trinity group kept commenting how St. X "nearly" won the state championship. Even the X friend had to laugh.

Congratulations to the Shamrocks.

The rain did stop for the AA boys race, but the course was sloppy in the turns. There was many runners that fell through out the 5K. The turns was where the runners had their problems. My son told me that he hurdled 3 runners towards the entrance of the Horse Park before entering the alley of trees just past the mile marker, and a few others through out the race. Spikes came in handy for this race. This was my 7th. straight State Cross Country meet, and by far the worst conditions that I have ever whitness at the Horse Park. A beautiful place to hold such an event. I just wished the meet was a day earlier.

No doubt that Northern KY is the hotbed of small-school cross country for both boys and girls.
