My thoughts exactly. Kentucky has an awful lot going for them right now, including program success, in-state recruits, and out-of-state recruits. Louisville football is pretty significantly behind Kentucky in all of those areas right now.

 

Does Satterfield/Appalachian State have a strong recruiting game right now? I honestly have no idea.

I think this is a pretty good hire. Brohm would have been a grand slam hire.

 

Personally, I think an outsider is what Louisville needs. Change the entire culture. Not saying Brohm wouldn’t have, but I like this hire better than Brohm. Couldn’t have went wrong either way though.

App State has had some really good olines. Great hire.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Satterfield's first game is going to be against Notre Dame and we have no clue what the roster is going to look like. Should be an interesting few months. We don't know all the dates yet, but here are Louisville's 2019 opponents:

Tough year for both Notre Dame and Miami to come up on the ACC contract rotations.

 

Also, the fact that we play Miami twice before we see Virginia Tech even once is just silly. This rotation is terrible and I hate divisional scheduling in college football.

Always interesting with these types of mid major hires. It can go either way. He is accustomed to coaching kids that played with "chips on their shoulders", due to not being heavily recruited. For Louisville to keep competitive they will need better recruits than App State. I think he's a good coach though, his teams at App State were always well prepared and played really hard.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another on the hire. I don't hate it, but I'm not excited about it either. He seems to check the boxes of someone you'd want in a head coach, but we'll see if it translates into wins. Next year will be ugly because of the schedule, so we can go ahead and write that one off.

I like him a lot. I think this is what Louisville needs right now. There's not a lot of fan fare and hype behind the hire. I think this gives him a chance to come in with the right assistants and get it done. Like someone earlier said; it may not be a home run but it is a really good hire IMO.

In regards to recruiting, AppState's top RB recruit for the coming season is apparently now on radar for Louisville. Has offers from Georgia, Auburn and Bama, among others.

How long will be measured up against whatever Brohm does at Purdue?

There are the Twitter nuts who weren't going to be happy unless it was Brohm or Nick Saban. :lol2: Not literally Saban, but someone who they knew and is already in the spotlight. The fact of the matter is very rarely does a Power 5 hire a coach away from another Power 5, and the schools that are able to do it are well established programs. Louisville isn't that, yet.
