November 12, 20187 yr Wife and I love US Bank, we've been using it forever. However, once we get rid of the last of our HELOC balance with them, we're going to start incurring monthly account maintenance fees on our accounts there. Anyone know of, or use, a bank in the NKY area that does not charge monthly account fees? Most I've found will waive the fees if you have a CC or loan account with the bank, and that's absolutely not an option. Credit Unions aren't an option as there aren't any convenient to where we're located.

Credit Unions aren't an option as there aren't any convenient to where we're located. I have a few accounts with Republic, and they have a basic checking account that is free. Their premium accounts carry minimum balance fees ($25k for premier, $1k for an interest bearing checking account). Their savings account have minimum balance fees as well, but they are very manageable. Also, their customer service is outstanding. The problem is they've only got a couple locations in NKY---Crestview Hills, Covington and Union. My Huntington accounts also don't have fees, except for savings, but again, minimum balances are pretty manageable. I also have 5/3 accounts, but they do charge fees unless you have a CC or your combined balances exceed a certain amount. I got the CC, but have never used it. There is no annual fee, so it's not really a big deal to just get the card and stuff it away in a drawer.
November 12, 20187 yr UKMF, have you contacted US Bank? I had a similar issue when I paid off my auto loan, and they put me on a different option that only required I maintain a savings account to avoid fees. Some of the perks went away (free foreign ATM transactions, for example), but that wasn’t a big deal to me.

I plan on doing so, and hopefully a move isn't necessary, but I want to have another bank in mind that we can move to if what they offer isn't satisfactory. Glad to hear there may be a fee-free option with them.

November 12, 20187 yr Author I don't get charged any monthly fees with Huntington. However they don't have many locations. Yeah, that's my struggle, is finding one that has a convenient location. Looks like there's a Huntington within 5-10 minutes of our house, so that's definitely an option.

Huntington is my main bank. I've never had an issue with locations. There are at least 4 within 10-15 minutes of me in the Taylor Mill area. Locations really don't matter that much to me as I do most of my banking through the web or via the app. I haven't set foot in a bank in a few months.

We're in a bank about once a week or more, so locations are a huge deal for us.

November 12, 20187 yr Different strokes for different folks. We're in a bank about once a week or more, so locations are a huge deal for us. Without a doubt. The only reason I mentioned that was to shed a little perspective on my review. With two of the places I mentioned, locations are more limited than other choices in the area (especially Republic), but since I do very little banking in person, except for the ocassional trip to the ATM, number of locations really don't factor into my level of satisfaction.

What exactly do you have to go in the bank once a week for? I do 100% of my banking online, but I’m always curious how other people do things.

Mr. BWF goes in the bank at least once a week. He likes to schmooz. I am inside the bank maybe once a year. We have been PNC bankers for a long time. Actually started out as a local bank, Citizens National but got bought out. Very happy with them. They have called us on several occasions to alert us to unusual charges, and when they aren’t ours, fix the problem almost immediately. They also reimburse our ATM fees. Lots of locations locally and nationally. Haven’t seen any monthly fees charged to my account, but I am a very poor record keeper.
November 13, 20187 yr I couldn’t even tell you the last time I went inside my bank. I think I've been in a bank maybe twice this whole year....both times related to opening a new account at a new bank for my son who headed off to college this fall. With direct deposit, and apps that allow you to transfer, do mobile deposits, report card issues etc at any time of the day, there's simply no reason for me to set foot in a bank. I can see if you have a cash business, then obviously you'll need to make trips to the bank to deposit said cash. I'm all about the convenience. I have accounts with an online only bank (Ally) where I've never even spoken to a bank employee in the 5 years I've had the accounts.
