IMO Fulmer is a great coach in a difficult situation.

 

The man is expected to bring the best of best in to UT every year.

 

Would te 120,000 UT fans really be satisfied with a group on "nice guys" who win 7 games a year?

 

I think Fulmer is lying in bed right now asking the question, "Can I ever Coach a group of solid young men, win the SEC, and satisfy the state of Tennessee?"

 

He doesn't fight the same fight that UoL and UK share. He certainly doesn;t fight the fight that Auburn and Alabama fight. This guy has the BIGGEST fan base in all of college football. He has to be Rockey Top, win big, AND be a proponent of moral correctness in the US south!

I agree....the UT off field problems are pitiful and consistent. In fact, there was a certain lineman that left early last year for the NFL because he was sick of all the BS surrounding the program.

Like I said there are discipline problems, but not like criminal U and criminal State U down in Florida during the 90's. No they weren't put on probation, but they were the laughing stock of college football.

It sure seems that way. They're not in the same class as the Criminoles yet, but they're not to far behind either. It doesn't seem like it should be this easy to get yourself in trouble in Knoxville.

One of the reasons I love being a UT fan is because simply mentioning them incites such a reaction from EVERYONE. Everyone loves to hate UT.

 

Yes, this is dissapointing to see, and yes last season there were far too many off field incidents. However, UT has a bullseye painted on them and everything that happens gets magnified.

 

One of last years' "incidents" was a lineman who damaged a firetruck by punching a handrail as he watched his apartment burn down. C'mon, thats not a dicipline problem, but it grabs headlines as a playing getting in trouble.

 

Overall, it seems UT has definately cleaned up from last year (definately needed) and this is a relatively minor incident. 3 players after a heart-breaking loss at a bar, no doubt being incited by other patrons. I won't question Fulmer unless we see another incident this year.

 

I do agree that the punishment seems to be light, I'd have gone for the rest of the season personally. Honestly, if Arkansas wasn't as good this year, that probably would've been the case. Very few coaches have the guts to sit a star player for a big game, like it or not.

Seems like a certain Jim Bob Cooter was pulled over for a DUI and he can be seen any given Saturday gracing the UT sidelines in uniform...but I guess a DUI is a minor offense...

I agree with you, but if a person is assaulted and reacts they will both likely go to jail. They were underage and drinking which was an added charge. That is why I said I do not know all the facts. Now I also think the punishment was too light as I said in the post earlier.

The thing is according to the article they were not fighting with other kids over being heckled, they were fighting with each other.

I haven't read it yet...I was just going by the posts on here...I would certainly suspend them...Foster is certainly not an impact player we can't win without; so I do not unsderstand why he didn't receive a harsher punishment.

Lee Smith got kicked off the team for a DUI over the summer. First offense.

I take it you're not a big VOL fan? The reason he got suspended for a half was that his role was much less severe than the other two (Wardlow and Holbert). He was trying to be a peace-maker. You nor I know all the details, so let's just let the coaches do their best to turn these kids into men of character. If talent/starting position/impact player status had anything to do with it, James Banks would still be wearing Orange today. ALSO, Montrell Jones and Onterio Smith wouldn't have been kicked off the team. Check the program's history before aserting such a claim.

I lived in Knoxville from 2001 until February of this year and was friends with a member of the UT athletic department. It is true that Banks, Jones and Smith were asked to leave but only after multiple (in Banks case 4) incidents/infractions. There are a lot of Vol fans in Knoxville that are embarassed (and rightfully so) and fed up with the whole situation. Regardless of what you choose to believe there is a serious discipline issue within the UT football program.
