My thoughts based off my criteria and my perception of what typically constitutes the winner of the award

 

1. Wandale Robinson- He checks every box you want. Big time recruit. Big time stats. He is right in the heart of the media focus. Makes "wow" moments. Steps up against the better competition.

 

2. Milton Wright- See above and repeat. The only knock on Wright is there are moments he seems to disappear during games. Part of that is intentional as either a decoy or because the other team is trying not to let him beat them. With that said, all he does is make clutch plays.

 

3. Casey McGinness- Best player on the best team. Consistently good. Just not the elite recruit and NKY for whatever reasons kind of gets the hose because of a lack of true Media Coverage on the KY side of the river.

 

4. Cameron Jones- I will eat my crow on this one. I honestly though Jones would struggle making the adjustment from a BAD small school team to a GOOD large school team. Instead he has been absolutely superb. I am not sure he is the best player on FD, but he is the one with the most name recognition and that matters.

 

5. JJ Weaver- Kind of surprised not to see his name mentioned more. Big time recruit? Check. Media rich area to get votes? Check. A recruitment that involves the state flagship programs to keep his name involved? Check. Weaver also checks some other boxes I want to see personally. His Moore team is having one of the best seasons in school history and he has double digit sacks.

 

3 that Deserve More Love:

Demarco Fishback- See the comments on Cameron Jones above. If you wonder who the bets player is on that team it is Fishback. Absolute stud who deserves more college attention as a recruit and more press.

 

Kent Trey Matthews- LOVE this Mayfield star. He is having a big year and has shown up BIG in their toughest games.

 

Jacob Lacy- He is rightfully getting love. Big time recruit who has been dominant for years. He anchors one of the best defenses in the State. Spurrier's numbers are good as the QB, but Lacey is the stud at South Warren.

I think Robinson has sealed the Mr Football crown this year. He is a great player on an average team. Stars shine brighter when the are the only one in the sky. He did more than Wright because he had to do more for his team to be successful. He did everything his team needed him to do, and then more. I would love to see Robinson take his team deep into the playoffs, that would be a story.

Good call on Weaver, @ATLCat. He'll be on the watchlist this week.
