Is the All AA going to happen or has that fallen by the wayside for this year?

The Kentucky 2A Championships will take place this winter at the Owensboro Sportscenter. We are looking forward to a fantastic basketball event, in an excellent venue.

It is important for anyone reading this to know that this tournament does NOT determine any Kentucky High School State Championships and the event is not sanctioned by the KHSAA which governs high school sports in Kentucky.

I always find it funny how bent out of shape some get about the All A Classic having a "State Championship" for the schools that fit the enrollment rules for it. Now looking back and seeing how bent out of shape some got over this 2A one too.

 

I really don't understand why it gets people all upset. As I keep saying anytime these topics get brought up. I honestly don't think the KHSAA has any problem with the All A Classic or even this one now. There is no stepping on the KHSAA's toes like someone said in that thread. The KHSAA is probably happy with these tournaments, because it doesn't put any pressure on them to have to classify in basketball and baseball like basically every other state has.

 

In today's world with how easy people like to complain. If the All A Classic wasn't around, chances are Kentucky would already be classified in both basketball and baseball like it is in football. However by having a "State Championship" for small schools like the All A and now this. It allows the small schools to have their true chance at a "State Championship" within that enrollment and keeps them happy. If it wasn't for these tournaments, there probably would have been all kinds of pressure from all Small Schools by now to classify. However there is no need for them to complain, because of these tournaments.

 

So why all the fuss? Imo people should be happy they are around. It's the only reason why classification hasn't happened in both baseball and basketball yet.

We do our best here at BGP to provide accurate information about Kentucky High School Sports and calling anything other than a KHSAA sanctioned State Championship a 'State Championship' is inaccurate, disingenuous, and blatant subversion in my opinion.

The name of the organization is "Kentucky 2A Championships" no where will you find "state champions". The organization will crown a boys' and girls' basketball Kentucky 2A Champion this winter, just like the All "A" Classic will crown a boys' and girls' basketball All "A" Classic champion this winter. In my opinion there are individuals trying to make it an issue.

The A and 2A are basically statewide invitational tournaments involving all 16 regions for the schools that meet their enrollment guidelines. So, since they are "statewide" that makes them a state championship in that particular class, just not one sanctioned as a KHSAA state championship. They are All A and All AA Classic state championships.

Our school was runner-up to UHA in the All A played at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington in 1990. We have an All A State Runner-up banner hanging in the gym to showcase the achievement

I don't. I think the All 'A' Classic does an outstanding job running it, and give out numerous scholarship opportunities. I don't trust the KHSAA to run any tournament besides the Boys Sweet 16.

They do screw most things up that’s for sure.

I think it’s a good thing.... I’m sure it will be successful just like the class A is.

It's a great thing. Unfortunate that some schools have decided to take their ball and go home, all because they feel like this will lead to classification. Schools that won't get a sniff of any state championship in the next ten lifetimes.

If they think it will lead to classification they’ve got their thinking in reverse. It’s just the opposite. It will keep classification at bay. Without the statewide All A starting in 1990 we would possibly already have KHSAA basketball classification. The All A stopped any discussions in their tracks and that’s a good thing in my opinion. My cousin who retired from teaching in Indiana has told me numerous times that he would have liked to have seen an All A type tournament in his state and maybe they wouldn’t have classified basketball several years ago. He says it isn’t very popular in Indiana and it’s taken a lot of the excitement out of the basketball state tournaments but they’re stuck with it.

Wondering if they were open to letting a smaller school (one that typically meets the All "A" criteria) play in the Kentucky 2A?
