Why? Some schools were tied into two-year contracts on the date of the classic. Most rural schools are not capable of paying the forfeit fee to get out of those games. I don't think the classic committee will turn teams away in the future if the classic is successful.

When the statewide All "A" Classic began in 1990 there were several schools who chose not to play. Some likely had existing contracts while others may have wanted to see how it played out. After that first year, nearly every team participated. Why would you want to punish a school for all time for making what is likely a prudent decision at the time? Why punish a school down the line for a decision made by a principal, athletic director, and/or coach who may all be gone in a couple of years?
