There were undefeated Alabama and 3 1-loss Power 5 teams (Clemson, Ohio State and Washington). Some Ohio State didn't deserve to be in based on how bad they got beat in the playoffs. You can't reseed after the playoffs are over, you just the info you had at the end of the season to pick them.

 

Ohio St had a better resume than 2 loss Penn St. even though Penn State beat them late, those two losses killed Penn State's chances that season.

Positioned? They had one loss, where should they have been positioned? There was no team left out of the playoffs with less than two losses unless you think Western Michigan was actually one of the four best teams in the country.

 

Maybe you just hate OSU, I'm not sure. I can't stand OSU but I'm not blind to them either. In 2016-17 looking back on it, they deserved to be in over every team that was left out.

 

Anyway, it's no biggie. I just think that as a whole the playoffs have worked very well and have no interest in seeing teams ranked in the teens playing in the playoffs.

Because the gap between the top 5 teams in Division 2 and an average d2 team is not as great as the gap between the top 5 teams in d1 and and average d1 team.

That’s not even true. Look at the polls... I just went back and checked, when Ohio State lost to Penn State they fell from 2 to 6. The rest of the teams in the top 15 behind Ohio State already had a loss or two or hadn’t played anyone.
