I'm just going to say one thing. Don't forget get where PT has to play. If this were in Paducah I'd say they might could pull it off. But they have to come down to War Memorial. Not too many teams have come down there beat Mayfield as of late. I guess beating a bad McCracken team makes you legit, I guess. Anyways, have a blessed day, guys.

DT,

I think your first point is well taken as Mayfield has not lost at War Memorial Stadium since their only loss of the 2015 season in OT to a very good 10 and 3 6A McCracken County team.

I think the "legit" point is a bit harsh considering the fact that Tilghman has had so many differenct head coaches, off field issues and lost their head coach only a few weeks before the season, as that shows Amazing resolve by the kids and the coaches there now. And is a great story honestly.

Add that to the fact that Western Kentucky Football is clearly better when Paducah Tilghman is good!

I would also add that Mayfield needs the competition! When you see 2A Desales playing AND BEATING 6A St Xavier and 6A Butler, both Top 10 6A school, Mayfield needs tough games to get ready for Week 4 of the Playoffs (and that's if Desales can beat CAL - what a tough 2A District that is!)!

Mayfield has only lost 2 home games in the last 10 seasons. They are very hard to beat.

I don't think anyone has said beating that McCracken team made them legit. The thing you take away from that game is how they looked doing it. It could have been much worse.

I'm just looking forward to watching the game. We have a lot of respect for what Mayfield has done.

Mayfield Fan thru and thru, but I like it much better when Tilghman is good!!

Mayfield wins big.

But that's more about Mayfield than it is about PT. PT is still a very good team.

Don't think Mayfield wins big. However, I would give the slight edge to them for

1. coaching

2. being at home

Defense will win this game for Mayfield. I don't think counting on the big play for Mayfield is an option because I don't think that will happen with the PT team speed and I don't think the long ball will be there for Mayfield again with PT speed. This one will be won on defense and Mayfield sustaining drives by moving the chains with short possession catches and the run. Mayfield 20 PT 17

Jonathan Smith played for Mayfield between 1993-1996. Joe Morris was his line coach and offensive coordinator.

From the Mayfield Messenger:

"Mayfield football is built on guys like Jonathan Smith. He wouldn't pass the eye test , but when he went out there he got the job done." Joe Morris -Mayfield head coach

On balance, not many teams away from Mayfield beat Mayfield.

It's another interesting storyline to add to the great history of this rivalry.

Coach Smith reminds me a lot of Coach Duncan. He not only knows his football, but even more importantly, he's an exceptional person. He has the respect of this team and I really like where we're headed with them.

Tilghman would be crazy to not remove his interim label at the end of the season. My only fear is that he is also our Assistant Principal and may very well be the Principal next year as it looks like Mr. Davis is set to retire.

Can he balance all that out and make it work? I think he can, but we'll see. The argument can be made that the Assistant Principal's wear so many hats, it's actually a bit of a workload decrease as they step up.

I'm glad both Mayfield and Paducah both were able to have the opportunity to be associated with him. He's a great guy.

I know the game is going to be close. It's a huge rivalry and both cities respect one another. Dont take my comments to heart lol

I guess anything is possible, but after watching more film than I've ever watched about a team, I'm just not seeing how Mayfield is stopping Tilghman's running game.

Mayfield's lineman get blown off the ball fairly often and Tilghman's O line is the best they have played.

I'll certainly tip my cap to you if Mayfield holds Tilghman to 7 points.

Aside from the first drive or two, MF D-line play against Hoptown was pretty solid. And the Union City game was one of the more physical opening season games I have seen MF play. I think UC fullback had almost 200 yards rushing and their o-line was solid, so I'm not sold on PT having the best line they have played because that game was a GRINDER. Which is the game PT is going to play. I'm curious as to what defensive front MF will line up in. Regardless, I still think this is going to be a great game. I'm sure PT is ready to get the MF monkey off their back.

Is just me or is everyone on bluegrasspreps able to get into the film room and watch film on the opposing team? I'm asking because it seems to be a trend these past few seasons.

I would assume that there are quite a few coaches in here and lots of people have kids in school.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm assuming they aren't actually going to a film room. You do realize they can watch and study just as much at home and most of them do.

Video clips on hudl isnt film to me. Those clips don't tell the story of a game. That's why beating a bad McCracken team doesn't convince me that this will be a great game. Last year, this game had the same hype and it ended up being a tale of 2 halfs. New coach, good speed, good athletes, seems like the same scenario from last season going in.

dt, You have valid points that beating a bad McCracken team doesn't hold a lot of water, but PT did it with great efficiency, and it would appear that their ground game is pretty salty.

I don't remember last year looking as well for PT, we were just excited to have a established coach taking over, but certainly we were not ready for Mayfield.

As for this year, here is my prediction of how it goes:

I think PT will have a solid performance with their ground game, however we know that running alone will not put a spread in the points, I have seen that happen too many times in Mayfield games. In this last 12 year losing streak with Mayfield, PT has been close several times in the 3rd quarter but Morris is the best in the business at making adjustments and if he spies a chink in your armor he will put a 3 td spot on you in the blink of an eye.

So if PT keeps it close on the coat tails of the running game alone, I predict Mayfield will pull away late with a couple of big plays.

If however PT keeps it close on the ground, and can hit a couple of big passes, maybe then they get the W.

I think their running game is pretty good, but they really have not been tested yet, so me, you, and no one else really knows for sure what they will do. We are just old men typing on a keyboard- We shall see tonight!
