It really could have been. Up 35-0 in the 3rd and started subbing. Lloyd also ran 99% of the time so clock moved quick

Nice win for Beechwood, keep your heads up Juggs, you may not face a better team all year.

Beechwood should thunderroll anyone in Class A.

Beechwood takes on Somerset next week.

Good win for Beechwood. About what I expected. I thought if it got to a running clock it would not happen till late in the game.

This one looked like it might get ugly for Lloyd early on. Beechwood scored on their first two possessions (Hergott passes to Bolger 2 yards and to Derry 22 yards). With 3:39 to go in the first quarter the Tigers led 14-0 and Lloyd did not have a first down in the first quarter.

 

As the second quarter opened, Lloyd finally forced a Beechwood punt then put a few first downs together before being forced to punt. Both teams traded 3 and outs. Then Beechwood ran their two minute drill to get into field goal range but missed the 31 yard field goal try.

 

The second half opened like the first with Beechwood scoring on their first two possessions (Castleman 4 yard run and Hergott 14 yard run). Lloyd got one first down in the third quarter when they went for it on 4th down. The third quarter ended with Beechwood leading 28-0.

 

Castleman scored on a 35 yard run and with 10:18 left in the game Beechwood led 35-0 (all extra points by new kicker Colin Graman). Beechwood put in most of their second team and Lloyd immediately took advantage with a 82 yard TD run by Johnathon Williams and a 2 point run by QB Dakota Thiel. With 7:41 to go Tyler Donoho scored on a 34 yard run for Beechwood to close out the scoring.

 

Logan Castleman was named the Crosstown Showdown game MVP with 170 yards rushing and 2 TD's.

Was a good opening game for Beechwood. The passing game is still a work in process but the D was spectacular all night. Beechwood hit hard and didn’t lose intensity all night. The passing game will need to improve for Beechwood to have a chance to beat some of the bigger schools on their schedule. As far as 1A and 2A opponents right now they can line up and play smash mouth with anyone in those divisions. All in all very impressive first game! This team will be so much better by playoff time because of the tough schedule they play. Tough test next week with Somerset!!!!

 

Lloyd is a very solid team. I hated to see #33 go down in the 3rd quarter. Kid played tough all night and ran super hard. Hopefully he will have a speedy recovery and be back next week!!!!! I think Lloyd will be a tough out come playoff time if they can stay injury free.

Spoke with a Lloyd coach after the game who said Mason is fine and that he was just “nicked” up. Very talented back and relieved to hear he’s ok.

 

The Beechwood D did a tremendous job containing Mason. Led by the Baugh brothers on the defensive line, the Juggs offensive line had little to no chance of winning any one on one battles. End result - no room for Mason to run.

 

Unfortunately, at this point, Lloyd is a one trick pony. If you can’t throw the ball, you can’t challenge the big dogs. Coach Turner is a really good coach and I expect that will be developed this season. He has good options in Mason, Williams and Bradley Turner at tight end...just not quite there yet.

I was hoping Lloyd would compete against Beechwood. This Lloyd team needs to find it's identity quickly or it won't be the season they hoped for.
