AAU Football state wide just like basketball? Who supports it?

Featured Replies

Huge benefit to schools by dropping sports. No funding teams, No funding facilities. Huge impact.

Lost money, decline in attendance... Schools, as a whole, are not dropping sports.

I can see there being no funding for sports like is happening to other programs, like band.

@Zonelife, can you describe what AAU football would look like. Is this something you've heard talked about or are you raising the possibility and wondering if people would support it?

Lost money from what exactly?

Hosting sporting events. While gates aren't huge at every school or for every event, that is money the school wouldn't get.

Not to mention possible tuition from kids going to other schools to play sports.

If high school sports dont exist, they cant quite go to another school to play, :lol2:

It will happen but school admins are misguided to think that education will improve without high school athletics.

If it happened (which it won't), it wouldn't be all at once. It would be gradual. Kids would leave schools that drop sports to go to other schools that do.

Doesn't have to be a "decent profit" to miss it when it's gone...

Not to mention the fact that by dropping sports, schools would lose major touchpoints with the community. Sports help create and foster community involvement and interest in the school. Community involvement and interest is very important to the overall success of the school.

Flag football/7v7 is basically AAU football.

Full contact? Absolutely not.

To note... We are really the only country in the world with "school" sports.

This would be one more way to have kids completely specialize in one sport, I think there is already to much of this, not a fan of the thought

How many schools you think make any profit at all, without booster money?

Not many.

Doesn't change my point.

Schools should not be about profit. There are many reasons for including sports. Academic incentives for students, community interactions are at the top of the list and promoting healthy lifestyles top the list.
