I'm going to disagree with both you and the scary looking lady in the article. If you want to practice your religion, do it at home or in a private school affiliated with your religion. Public school should not make religious accommodations.
October 26, 200619 yr I have no problem with accomodating relgious needs but I do worry about where it goes. The article mentioned how they were already accomodating different religions and they seemed reasonable to me. What happens when some of the more under the radar religions ask for accomodations?

October 26, 200619 yr How many pictures of that lady did they take until they got one that was that unflattering? What are the odds that the photographer disagreed with that lady's point of view? I'm thinking the answer to the first question is a lot and the answer to the second question is almost certainly. I disagree with the lady. I would allow for students to not be in the cafeteria if they didn't want to be there. However, I don't think I would call it a "Muslim fasting room". I would call it the room where you go if you don't want to be in the cafeteria during lunch.

They made an empty classroom available, so that they wouldn't have to watch the other kids eat while they fasted, which is hard enough on kids without probably being taunted over it. I'd be interested in knowing how old they are. Bright contended the district's granting of the Muslim parents' request - so the two boys would not have to sit in the lunchroom while fasting - was simply an act of kindness, not favoritism. He said the boys never used the room, but went to the library instead until Ramadan ended on Monday.

October 26, 200619 yr On Fridays during Lent all Catholics are supposed to abstain from eating meat and those over 14 are to supposed to fast by only eating 1 full meal. Would Catholics be extendend this courtesy on Lenten Fridays? If so then I have no problem, if not I have a huge problem with it.

October 27, 200619 yr How neat many celebrate "meet me at the pole" on prayer days at public schools and that is OK. Cool when we celebrate Christmas under the right understanding of current law and what is allowed vs. what is claimed or made up.:sleep: Freak out if it involves another religion besides Christianity.:thumb: Worse is maybe some Christian faith students may learn about the largest practiced religion in the world.
