Board Member Cries Over Islam Fasting Room

Typical classroom response. Things just happen. So I guess the status is administrators, maintenance and processes do not change at all when this happens? No checking to make sure all is OK, no providing electric, if needed or open the doors a little earlier, etc.

Just like a ball game after school, nothing extra happens, right.

The steps and effort are not much but just as the Mason administrator said being kind and courteous. To say there is no special effort when students gather extra early in the morning is not checked on by staff is elementary in understanding.

As a former sponsor of FCA, we pretty much stood outside and made a big circle around the flag pole. Doors were not open any earlier. No electric provided. Staff was invited to join and some did while others (those on early duty and performing their before school tasks or just didn't want to, did not).

We sang a couple of well-known songs, some students led different prayers, a local pastor decided and invited by the officers of FCA came in and gave a short encouraging message and we dismissed by one last student-led prayer.

Not sure what conspiracy you are looking for but that is how it happened in the 5 years I was involved and from my understanding the way it happened the years before I took over.

no conspiracy, just pointing the comments that hhsdad made there are NO efforts taken and to suggest a group of students shows up with the knowledge of school administrators, be it before or after and to suggest nothing different happens is incorrect. By your very own comment as the sponsor of FCA, there is an extra step.

The point you fail to grasp is the counter point of sensitivity by a few Chistians who decry no religion in school all day long get jumpy when the steps involve a religion that is not their faith. See the reaction of the board member herself. Take out muslim, put in Christian she is glowing with pride and joy. Make it not her religion she makes it a political point?!

... If you want to practice your religion, do it at home or in a private school affiliated with your religion. Public school should not make religious accommodations.

Bingo.

If this lady wants her children to have a religious bent fed to them during their education, then she should enroll them in a private school that is founded on Christianity. If she wishes to educate them in public schools, then she needs to understand the need to separate religion from education, within the walls of the school.

I guess that answers my question. Thanks.

I think her point was if it was Christian it would not have been allowed in the first place.

There is a college group, I can't remember the name, that has been outlawed at public universities because as a KNOWN CHRISTIAN group they require their officers to be CHRISTIANS. And sense they have been asked by the university and refused to remove that requirement they have been banned from the university and do not receive acknowledgement as a student organization.

There were examples last spring that valedictorians and salutatorians wanted to thank God and make mention of Jesus in their speech and was not allowed.

I get her point and it seems you are the one that has missed it. If this would have been a Christian thing, it would have been allowed.

... If this would have been a Christian thing, it would have been allowed.

I may be mistaken, but I believe you meant to type "would not have been allowed".

Either all the religions are wrong or only one of them is right.

If it is taking place at school, i'm against it.

If they don't want to eat, Thats okay.

They can sit in the office or library for 30 minutes.

Not a big deal as long as the SCHOOl is not providing preferential treatment or services.

As for religious accomodations = If kids aren't supposed to eat pork or fish then the parents can pack a freaking lunch.

It should NEVER be the school's responsiblity to provide meals based on religion preferences.

Yes I did mean to type the not word. If a mod can make that change for me I would appreciate it.

I agree for the most part, but do wonder about those kids that are on free/reduced lunch where (AND THIS REALLY, REALLY OCCURS AS I HAVE HAD KIDS THAT THIS IS TRUE) this is the ONLY good meal they will get in a day. And we serve something they cannot eat without going against their faith when it would have been extremely simple to have fish sticks on Friday instead of Wednesday of that week.

Would common human decency say that it would be okay to have fish on Friday.

:thumb:

I understand that point and it is entirely true that some kids depend on school for good food.

But the "common human decency".....

Wouldn't common "Lordly" decency overlook a child eating SOME food instead of starving for his religion.

Or common "parently" decency pack a lunch if the religion is so important.

Would the religion demand that children starve for the sake of appeasing a religious ideal? If so.....that doesn't sound like a compassionate religion to me.

But, switching fishsticks to another day isn't a big deal...but to do it strictly to adhere to a religious preference estabalishes a trend.

I just don't condone schools getting involved with religions at all. That is what private schools are for. Though I know there would be several positive attributes if public schools were more religious....jsut which ones! haha

I am going to stay away from commenting on the practices and traditions of other Christian denominations at this time. GT can tell you from observance that my faith doesn't call me to miss too many meals.:D
