Those RBIs are fool's gold. He's hit .237 with a .291 OBP with runners in scoring position for his career. They'd be better off with anyone in the 4-5 spots in the lineup. 30 homer guys with his BA and OBP are a dime a dozen right now.

I'd argue they're actually quite rare. Most guys with those numbers end up on the scrap heap. :lol2:

That kind of batting average with runners in scoring position will lose you more games than it will win you. He got those RBI totals due to the volume of at bats he had with runners on. Last year Gennett hit .349 with a .386 OBP with runners in scoring position. How much better off would they have been with him batting cleanup?

Duvall lead every NL player in at bats with runners in scoring position last year - 162 at bats 63 RBIs. He hit .235/.274/.414

 

Votto had 97 with 60 RBIs and hit .371/.565/.660

 

So yeah, as usual not even close.

Seriously though, there's no logical excuse for playing scrubs like Duvall and Hamilton every single day. They shouldn't be on a major league roster let alone play every day.

Votto, Schebler, Winker, Gennett, Suarez (once he returns), and Barnhart should play every day.

 

Ervin should play 4-5 days a week.

 

It shouldn't be this difficult.
