Belfry vs. Shelby Valley

Featured Replies

First of what should be successive games between the two.

Interesting note, IF Valley can shock Belfry. Then the Pirates fall from the #1 seed to the #4 seed and somehow Prestonsburg (who lost to the Pirates by 5 TD) would be the #1 seed!

That being said, not a good week to catch Belfry following an upset loss and a bye week. Belfry shold win this won by 40+, but I have a feeling you will see a limited playbook and multiple substitutions in this one.

Belfry 35

Valley 0

Belfry 41-7.

This game shouldn't even be close.

Over at halftime.

Belfry - 52

Valley - 6

The pond creek nation comes out in full force!

Haywood wouldn't allow one of his teams to put up 60 points unless they needed every one to secure a victory. Belfry should roll nonetheless.:thumb:

Let's go Belfry , I want to come to the CAM for the rubber match ... even though will not be as nerve racking as last year... or 2004

Last year you folks where the evil empire .... Even up 20 to 0 we knew Darth Vader would come back ... after the interception , Ivan went into the tank and we were holding on with defense ...

Looking forward the electric atmosphere of playing an opponent who can play ...

I would love to see another 9,000 people CRAM the CAM.

Belfry feels as if they were a flinch away (literally, and it was the right call) from a Three Peat last year,,, but it's goinna be a hard row to hoe for the Pirates. If seeding holds true then Belfry will have to knock off the #7, #4, #3, and then either the #1 or #2 Team in successive weeks to win the title.

Russell is the epitome of a class program.

Yea... Haywood is a good sport. But my point was Belfry will roll in this game.

Belfry does not slip back in this one and keeps the strangle hold on number one.

Belfy - 42 and Valley - 6

If the players had the fight to make a run, they had to come out with a purpose this week.

I would love to see Elkins throw 10 passes and some of 1st down and 2nd and short. It just seems the fullback dive hasn't been as productive as of late.

What do you judge as to whether or not the give to the fullback is successful?

What do you judge as to whether or not the give to the fullback is successful?

In the wishbone that Belfry runs, the FB dive only needs to be successful to the point that opposing LB's commit early to stopping it.

Put another way...if opposing teams aren't forced to defend that particular play FIRST, the rest of the wishbone's options will have problems.

Coach Haywood's been around a LONG time. When he coached at P-burg, around 30 yrs. ago (wow) in a game at Belfry, he ran a QB sneak 6 or 7 times in a row making good yardage each play on the Blackcat's very first possession. Belfry's defense had no one over the center had wide DT splits. He did NOTHING else until Belfry came out of that alignment (wide-tackle 6 ?). If he hadn't done that, Belfry would have been given a defensive advantage everywhere outside the offensive guards.

There are certain plays in his scheme that MUST be ran. Judging a particular play's success by looking at "yards per attempt" would be a mistake. The option offense should be judged as a whole, not its parts.

:bunny:

I know the play must be run fellas.

Just seemed Prestonsburg committed and took away the fullback. The Sheldon Clark defending the play pretty well. I know May got his yards, but it seemed there were many plays in which we didn't get but a yard or no gain.

Completely understand it is the fundamental play in the offense and I agree with the "run it to its stopped" attitude.

To answer Watusi's ultimate question. I would say consistent gains of 3 yards or more. Against stout defense, the line doesn't seem to consistently get a good push. One time May will have some daylight and get 6 yards and the next time he gets 1.
