I agree to disagree on the schedules..They look pretty even to me...look at the previous rankings before the Murray and Fulton City games, PT was higher then, too...Yes, the PT game could have gone either way and I almost said that, but, chose to get to the point.. I feel WCentral is better than anyone Mayfield has played, but, Hopkinsville is as good as anyone else PT has played and both have played Graves, so thats a wash...
Warren Central is better than Hopkinsville, even more so than the banged-up team that Mayfield faced.

So, it really comes down to PT playing Henderson and Ft Campbell and Mayfield playing Marshall and Caldwell...not much difference to me...
Where those teams are concerned, yes.

i'm not real sure Calloway and Hopk Central are too much better than Fulton City & Fulton Co.
They are. And Madisonville is much better than Murray and Ballard Memorial.

By this weekend, their common opponents will be Hopkinsville, Graves County and Union County.

So the rest of the schedules are ...

Tilghman ... Warren Central, Henderson County, Madisonville, Fort Campbell, Calloway County, Hopkins Central.

Mayfield ... Marshall County, Caldwell County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Murray, Ballard Memorial.

No comparison ...

I'm sorry but Johnson Central should be ranked higher. They flat spanked Ashland last week. I guess I just hate computer rankings because they don't look at the big picture. l

Good point Jeepman. But regular season rankings dont mean anything. I know JC wants to be ranked higher than what they are. Wait until the 3 or 4 round of the play-offs and then see where JC is ranked.

Mayfield and Tilghman went to overtime ... also could have gone either way. Tilghman's schedule is tougher than Mayfield's, as it should be.

Plus, Tilghman lost to Graves County 21-14 and Mayfield lost 28-0 to the Eagles ... and those subpar performances against Murray and Fulton City haven't helped.

I guess if you want to play the comparable score game using Graves as an example, I can do the same with Union Co....Pt wins 34-6, Mayfield wins 57-12, or we can compare Mayfield defeating Caldwell 35-7 and Caldwell beating Ft Campbell 17-14 and Ft Campbell beating PT...If we're going to compare, let's compare all, not just what favors one...and let's not forget the most telling story...Head to Head...Mayfield won, regardless if it were by 1 or 41, it was still a win and I still think PT being ranked higher just shows how flawed the system is...

When you compare scores, you must take into account what would happen if the game was replayed. Would Mayfield beat Caldwell County tonight? I'm not so sure. Would Fort Campbell beat Paducah Tilghman? I'm not so sure. Would Mayfield beat Paducah Tilghman? Remember, you're looking at some scores that happen two months ago. A ratings system has to include an entire season, not just the games YOU want to look at.

I don't believe JC is anywhere close to the top six on this list...which of the other three teams are they better than?

2. Trinity (8-1) Beat Fern Creek 51-23 at Shelby Co. 91.0

3. St. Xavier (7-2) Lost to Male 28-27 in OT vs. Butler 90.8

4. Highlands (6-3) Beat S. Oldham 51-23 vs. (5) Covington Cath. 88.4

5. Covington Cath. (6-3) Beat Grant Co. 64-12 at (4) Highlands 87.6

6. Bowling Green (8-1) Beat Breckinridge Co. (Forfeit) vs. Franklin-Simpson 85.8

7. Henry Clay (9-1) Lost to Lafayette 25-13 Idle 83.8

8. Warren Central (7-2) Beat Marshall Co. 40-14 at (12) Christian Co. 82.5

9. Owensboro (7-1) Beat Henderson Co. 29-12 vs. Apollo 82.4

10. Johnson Central (9-0) Beat Ashland Blazer 35-7 at Mason Co. 82.2

While JC had a nice win over a less than stellar Ashland, (15 Cantrell 3A, 12 AP Rankings, nowhere to be found in BGP Rankings) it shouldn't rocket them to the top of the polls...

That was my point. Westsider used Graves as an example and I simply used a few other games that could easily sway things in the other direction. The Tighman and Graves game and the Mayfield and Graves game were both several weeks ago, too... I have to disagree when you say you have to take into account what would happen if the game was replayed...Why? Does this matter more than the actual result..I don't play what ifs unless they are in the same district and have a chance to play each other again. The only true reasoning to ratings have to be whats already happened and I can't see a computer system taking a What If" scenario over something that did actually happen...

I don't dispute they have not "run it up", but they have played their skilled position starters almost exclusively.

Wouldn't you? They play what they have to to win. Period.

IF YOU ARE A LOUISVILLE OR LEXINGTON SCHOOL THAT GIVES YOU A HUGE EDGE FOR CANTRELL

Except that Manual beat Warren Central, but they're still behind them in these ratings.

You are right. I should not have said a word. Just because they are perfect should not move them up where a team that has three losses is. We will all find out in about 6 weeks. Have a great day.

You wondered why Tilghman was ahead of Mayfield, so I listed a few reasons that could be the case ... nothing more nor less.

I agree JC's having a great year. They will get the chance to prove they belong among the best of the best in the state.

However, what people question is which is better? Having 9-0 record with a schedule that is by most accounts average compared to 6-3 with a schedule that is among the best in the state. Should playing some average teams rocket them to the top when the 6-3 teams would probably be undefeated if they had the same schedule?

Thump your chest, you should be proud of your team. They are having a stellar year. But understand people may not buy in to what you're saying until you beat a couple of teams in the playoffs.

We have to remind ourselves that the computer has so many variables in the fourmula that it won't always make sense. In the AP poll in 3A, Johnson Central is behind Highlands, BG, and Cov. Cath. Should they be in front of those teams? The people that vote don't think so, and my assumption is that they don't think Johnson Central has proven they are as good because they haven't played the schedule the others have, which is not thier fault. They fall into a similar boat with Lexington Catholic who is one spot behind Johnson Central in the AP poll. Lexington Catholic is ranked one spot in the computer rakings behind Scott Co., whom they beat. After Lexington Catholic beat Bourbon Co. by only 48 points, they fell four spots in the computer rankings, and after they beat Western Hills by 70 did not move up. The computer rankings probably will not mean much until the third round of the playoffs, but the only week it matters to be number one is after the last week.

If it makes you feel better, CovCath is 6 - 0 against Ky schools and Highlands is 5 - 1 (loss to Louisville St. X). The schools that beat CovCath/Highlands would most likely beat JC as well (unless you think JC would beat Elder, Cincy X, Louisville X, Columbus Watterson, or Columbus Desales). If JC takes care of business, they will get CovCath/LexCath/Highlands in a fourth round home playoff game and can make their case for statewide recognition there. Sorry if upsets JC supporters, but that's the way it is.

Agreed.

To be the man, you gotta beat the man!
