Revenge Games

Featured Replies

With the new playoff format, every game in the first two rounds will be a rematch from the regular season.

Given that, there will certainly be revenge on the minds of every lower seed in those two rounds.

So, with that in mind...

1. Who has the advantage? Is there a mental advantage or disadvantage and which team has it?

2. Which games do you think will result in the lower seed getting their revenge?

X will likely have the lower seed if the rematch occurs in the second round, and I think they beat the Bulldogs.

NCC will play either Holy Cross or Beechwood. They had both beat in the regular season but ended up short because of too many mistakes. I don't think they will make those mistakes again in the playoffs.

In 2005, Rockcastle County beat Bell Co. 21-0 in the Regional Championship on Log Mountain. This was a revenge game for earlier last-second defeat on QB sneak as time expired. Rockcastle fans felt that the Qb did not score. It cost them the District title. The returned with a vengeance.

This year's scenario pits a young Bell team returning to Rockcastle where they lost 18-14 to a much larger and older Rockcastle team. If the playoffs go as the seeds predict, Bell could return for a rematch in the second round game at Rockcastle. Should make for a great game.

Great post, TL. Here is a similar story.

In 1998, Belfry beat Sheldon Clark by 3 TDs during the regular season. In the playoffs, they met again, on Belfry's home field, for the regional championship. The game went into overtime, with the score 8-8. Belfry got the first shot, scored and kicked the XP for a 15-8 lead. SC scored in their try, went for two and the play resulted in a very close call at the goal line. The signal was good and Sheldon Clark won the regional title 16-15.

This year, Belfry lost to SC in Inez 35-29 in overtime, after building a 29-7 lead halfway through the 3rd quarter. If all goes as planned, they will more than likely face off in Belfry in round two. Hopefully this time it will be the Pirates who get their revenge.

I honestly think if Sheldon Clark and Belfry play again, that Belfry will play better mentally.. the missed tackles will make ya sick watching the replay.. and I still think Haywood should have went for it on 4th and 1 on the 50 yard line with a few minutes left in the third.. that could have really dampended some spirits.. because we could have ran the clock out and went into the 4th quarter with a good lead... lets hope we play smarter in the potential rematch.

Potential Rematches of Interest in 2A Alone:

-Sheldon Clark vs. Pburg, Pburg won first time

-Belfry vs. SC, SC won first game

-Breathitt vs. Middlesboro, Middlesboro won first in shootout

-Larue County vs. Western, Western won first game

-Corbin vs. Wayne Co., Corbin won close game

-Fort Campbell vs. Monroe County

The infamous crawling two point conversion by Moe Spradlin.... I remember it well. I had never been so irritated watching a sports overtime highlight in my life! The saddest part was that I felt we had the potential to play Highlands alot closer than anyone else had in the playoffs the next week.

Imo the Raceland/LCA matchup would be very interesting. LCA won the first game at Raceland and IF that rematch occurs it would be in the 2nd round for the District title at LCA. Raceland played one of their two "off" games they have had this season in the first one. LCA had alot to do with that. They came in well prepared and executed better than Raceland on that night. I don't like for kids/teams to look at things as a 'Revenge" game. Imo that could cause them to lose focus on what they need to be doing and that is to execute the game plan, keep their heads about them so to speak and eliminate mental mistakes. Raceland has played VERY good football since that game and I hope that they can keep up the momentum that they have now. At any rate, if this game comes to be it should be a very tough matchup for both teams.

Playing a team twice, does one team or the other have the mental edge?

Hard call there...

I think the mental edge goes to the team that won...they beat them once, why not again.

The emotional edge (which may be more important) goes to the team that lost.

I think it is O'Cath vs. Monroe.

Hopefully this thread will be open for awhile... I have some games in mind, but I think it would be better for me to wait.
