Region 1 Rankings - Week #11 (Post Your Polls Here)

Featured Replies

Ft. Campbell is really on a roll right now. It isn't any one person's return that has them playing so well though. They lost their two starting senior offensive tackles earlier this year and it took a little time to get the O-line back in synch. They have it together right now and have dominated the past 3 weeks, as is evident by the big numbers the running back has put up. The passing game has taken advantage of this by throwing a lot of flanker and slip screens, basically and extended running game. Most of the pass yards come from yards after catch by getting the ball to their athletes and the O-line getting down field blocking. The "D" isn't to bad either with two straight shutouts. I am with Westsider, look for Ft. Campbell to beat Trigg and Caldwell in the playoffs and win the region.

I think Trigg will win the region....But, if Ft Campbell beats Trigg in the 1st round, I think they'll win it...To me, that game will decide the region champ...

That region has too many ups and downs to see any one clear cut favorite. On paper I would give it to Ft. Campbell as I am still not a big believer in Caldwell County...but have to give them credit for how they have turned it on under first year head coach David Barnes. But Caldwell County I feel like will not be able to be a cold weather team in a few weeks when it is cold and blistery outside. Trigg is up and down and I think this weeks game against Lone Oak will tell the tale if the Wildcats can get things turned around or if they will be a one and done in the playoffs. Have not seen Ft. Campbell play but feel like they will be the team left standing out of the region.

Ft. Campbell is not a cold weather team either. Cramps against Catholic showed me that they are not a cold weather team. I guess nobody in District 1 are cold weather teams. So I will go with either Monroe or Catholic winning the region.

I don't know that you can hold this year's team acountable for what last year's team did.

I still think Owensboro Catholic will win the district, which would put them on the road against Caldwell County and at home against either Fort Campbell or Trigg County.

The cramp issue brought up by green nation is a non-issue this year. Ft. Campbell had some players cramp up last year in the Playoffs, but this was do to the fact that the starters had to play a whole game. They had such big leads in the final month of the regular season the starters only played half a game. They actually fell out of "game shape". I don't think the coaching staff will let that happen again. It really is a toss up in the region, but if Ft. Campbell can get by Trigg, they will take Caldwell, which could more than likely set up another classic with O-Cath and Ft. Campbell.

First Region Poll - Week 10 - 2006.gif

Notes:

Big Schools

-Bowling Green is a unanimous #1 again for the second straight week and fifth out of the last six, and enjoys their eighth straight week atop the polls.

-The race for the next three spots has really tightened up as Warren Central closes to within two points of Christian County going into their critical matchup this Friday, and Owensboro, fresh off of a #1 seed clinching win over Henderson, is only four points back of the Dragons.

-Other than Henderson who is off, Bowling Green is the only team in the top 10 not playing another top 10 opponent. Which would seem to indicate we could see some movement in or final poll next week.

-Paducah makes their triumphant return to the top 10! Pretty much given up for dead after an 0-5 start against a brutal schedule, Paducah makes their first entry into the top 10 in eight weeks, just in time for a matchup with #7 Hopkinsville. Their entry coincides with...

-Warren East drops from the top 10 for the first time this year. The team reached its peak at #8 in Week 4 and last in Week 6 prior to their game against Bowling Green. Since the loss ot the Purples they've been hanging in at #10, but they finally drop to the receiving votes category. Muhlenberg North doesn't figure to be a game that will get them back in.

Small Schools:

-Mayfield is #1 again, but their hold is just a little bit weaker than it has been. Mayfield had enjoyed being unanimous #1 for three straight weeks, but this week surging Fort Campbell takes 2 votes from them. Speaking of Fort Campbell....

-They're closing in on the #2 spot, just two points behind Caldwell County. A couple of lackluster performances by Caldwell combined with blowouts by Fort Campbell have helped sway the voters away from Caldwell's Sept. 29th victory of Fort Campbell.

-It's a by the boards week in the Small School poll, with only one game matching ranked teams (#4 Trigg at #8 Lone Oak). The other games figure to see all the favorites winning, with the possible exception of Fulton City at Fulton County.

-For the first time all year the voters were unanimous about the teams that belong in the top 10, if not the order. This comes in a week that saw every top 10 team win except #10 Fulton City (who was facing #1 Mayfield), and the two teams receiving votes both lost to top 10 teams.

DF, do you believe WC is better this year then last? Or at least there pass defense? I came down last year for the WC/CC game saw Tandy just about pull the upset. WC's pass defense was very suspect. If they don't hold Tandy in check it will be a long night for the Dragons. On the other side of the ball CC's defense looked awlful against the WC so who knows.

Owensboro should handle Apollo but it also depends on which Apollo shows up. The one who gave Henderson fits or the one that only put 14 on a terrible Ohio Co.

I believe Graves has been overrated from the beginning and will lose big to Marshall.

I believe PT can beat Hopkinsville if they don't beat themselves. They have the athletes and I will take PT in an upset.

The 2 games Warren Central has lost has been because their pass defense is poor. They have a pretty tough run defense. I predict a Christian Co victory due to the Colonels having a pretty good passing game with Tandy and Co.

Christian 34 Warren Central 21

others:

Owensboro 21 Apollo 6

Marshall 31 Graves 14

Hopkinsville 28 Tilghman 14

Trigg 21 Lone Oak 7
