Remember when he played middle school ball as a 8th grader and then halfway through the year they moved him to varsity? In one month, he went from starting PG for a middle school team to first off the bench in the district tourney.

:sssh: I remember it very well. It is very dissappointing to hear that someone with his experience and time put into his basketball career is slighted because of this injury.

I know Duran and anyone else on here that does knows that he will give everything he has to get back as soon as he can. I know he's a D-1 football player but I believe he loves playing basketball more. Hopefully he gets back at least by districts. That's the one thing about highschool ball is you arent out of it no matter what happens during the regular season. If he does get back in time for the postseason I think they still have a great chance to get to Rupp. The great thing about it is these kids have played with eachother for so long that there really wont be anytime they have to spend getting used to him being back.

:thumb: Great post, very true. And these kids have been through so much together that his return mid-season won't be much of an obstacle to overcome at all.

He didn't play summer ball and now has to sit out the entire basketball season. He's going to be very rusty and out of shape. And if UK has anything to say, I highly doubt we'll see him on the hardwood this year, which is unfortunate.

He actually broke his ankle and had a pin put in it the other day. That sucks

Yep, this kind of puts a damper on things if Brooks is fired and a new coach comes in and decides not to offer what the former staff put on the table. Either way, I think Duran has a future either on the hardwood or football field, it just may not be with a D1 outfit. This injury shoulnd not be discouraging to him as he needs to stay strong and bounce back.

UK STILL WANTS JEFFERSON - The University of Kentucky football team will not withdraw its scholarship offer to Holmes senior quarterback Duran Jefferson, who broke a bone in his leg two weeks ago.

 

Holmes coach David Trosper said UK recruiting coordinator Ron Caragher has already called Jefferson to confirm the scholarship offer will remain.

 

"For something that's as minor as Duran's injury is they're pretty much going to stay with you," Trosper said.

 

Jefferson broke the fibia bone in his ankle while playing quarterback for Holmes during a game against Boone County on Oct. 20.

 

Trosper said doctors put a small screw in the bone to help it heal properly and Jefferson should recover from it in six to eight weeks.

 

"Duran's very positive about it and anxious about getting into rehab and getting back for basketball season," Trosper said.

 

Jefferson was the starting point guard on the Holmes boys' basketball team the last two years, but he accepted the football offer from UK last summer.

At that time, Jefferson said UK didn't recruit him for a specific position, but the coaches talked about using him as a wide receiver, defensive back or punt returner.

I think the 6 to 8 week recovery time is a little optimistic. Plus you're dealing with a D-1 scholarship football player. Im sure they wont rush him back and try to protect that ankle as much as possible. There really is no reason to rush. As long as he is back in time for districts they should be happy.

His ankle is not the issue as far as I understand. Its his fibula and he has had a screw inserted to help the healing process.
