Wireman
That Dalton incident is very ironic.
theguru
Once again though, it seems like the only way many want to address this issue, is with more people, carrying more guns. That is because arming teachers is the easiest, most cost efficient way to address this issue as a stopgap. For example, adding 4 well armed and trained guards would probably run each school 500K a year and actually building schools like they should have been built in the first place would be billions and billions of dollars. plantmanky
Once again though, it seems like the only way many want to address this issue, is with more people, carrying more guns. Metal detectors in schools was deemed to expensive by many on here, so its the next option. Either more police/armed security, or arm those already employed. DanvilleFan
I can understand the sentiment due to the fact that those hired to protect the school froze up and did nothing while an assailant killed kids, but previous posters have already raised some serious issues with arming teachers and how that could go wrong. The post about liability insurance is spot on about how this may not even be workable. However, the idea that we can put metal detectors everywhere and have tons of trained security personnel at every school, at a time when many of the state's school districts are already under significant fiscal strain (and more to come with the pension crisis), does not seem to work for me either from a cost standpoint. tcjkbt
Maybe home schooling is an option ... but unaffordable for many families.

He had a second incident at the school when police were called. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation again. The police reports state he is delusional. He definitely should not have a gun and he shouldn’t be teaching children either.
