Somerset vs. Harlan

Featured Replies

Just to throw in a little tid-bit of historical evidence as to why I think this game WILL be close.

In this newly created series with Harlan, both teams have been blown out once by the other team and the other game (2003) Somerset escaped with a 7 point win (21-14). Eric Perry knows Somerset and he knows Jay Cobb. He's beat him at while at Garrad County and Harlan, and his brother has made a past time out of beating them while at Danville. This game will be close! Everyone said the same things that are being said now in 2003 when, as I mentioned above, Somerset escaped by the skin of their teeth against a very mediocre Harlan team. Yea, Somerset will shut down Harlan's offense for the most part because it is easily done with some decent speed. However, I wouldn't be surprised if JB Donahue and Eric Perry have some surprises for the Jumpers. I am going to stick with my previous prediction of Harlan escaping with a narrow victory. I know this could go either way but I am going to have to go with my team in this one.

By the way, the home team has never won in this series yet! Keep that in mind both now, and in the playoffs because these teams will likely see each other again.

Daddy Cat and Dragon Pappy, calm down for Christ sake… Opinions are like you know what’s, everybody has one and thinks that theirs doesn’t stink. Just watch the game and see what happens. Should be a good one, might not be though.

:thumb: Hey Waggle, we've come a long way this season when you have to tell me to calm down. But you are right, I got too carried away and apologias to everyone if I have offended. Lots of pride in these two team's camps, which is good. That being said, I guess this forum is all about opinions, cause ain't none of us on here (except players) going to have a hill of beans of real say, its the boys. Some of the fine folks just have a certain "way" of stating things that gets me going. Go big green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harlan has a good secondary and a REALLY good run defense.

On offense #9 Lundy is a really good running back with decent speed (if he breaks the line it's 6 points).

I think it will be a low scoring game and could go either way.

24-21 FINAL SCORE!

Haha, very true...

Jay Cobb has never played a Garrad County team before.

I stand corrected. I thought they played each other in the Mid-90's but I guess not. Sorry about that part of the post.

I think everyone is saying basically the same thing here guys, Harlan has the better defense while Somerset has the better offense. D-pappy has not said any different and Jumper fans all agree. Now come friday we get to the fun part and get to watch these young men lay it out there for the #1 seed in the district!! Man it just don't get any better!!!!

I like to see the Camper posters and fans from other teams that both Somerset and Harlan have played because they should be non-prejudicial in their opinions. That is where we should get a true gauge on how this plays out.

I think Somerset will win but I would like to see Harlan come out with a big district win...Good luck to both teams.

Williamsburg has played both, albeit against Harlan both Hamlin and Moses were very limited by injury and Root was the only real threat(3TDs, 119 yards receiving). Somerset just has unbeleivable speed for a 1A team. Harlan is physical and has a pretty good defense, but i just don't think they can stretch the field offensively against the Jumpers. Somerset's d is improving and should get a few stops. I just don't know if Harlan can get equal stops unless Somerset turns the ball over, something they didn't do in the Williamsburg game. I'd have to say 42 for the Jumpers and 18 for the Dragons.

Defense. Defense. Defense. Defense.

Somerset- 21 and Harlan - 14.

When a team can only do one thing good like Lynn Camp (they do it very well by the way, Run the ball) you can scheme and stop it. Harlan is mainly run but they have some skill and can mix a good throw here and there. Somerset can pretty much do it all and do it very well and very fast!!! Harlan will score but not fast enough to catch up with Somerset.

Harlan 21 Somerset 42.

Wish that I could watch this one. It is going to be a good close game but I have to go support my Warriors on Senior Night. I think Somerset will pull this one out though --- Cole and Deaton are just too good.

This game could be closer if it is a cold, wet night.

It is starting to look that way.

To me it will be Harlan's ability to stop the big play in the rain...if they limit the Jumpers' changes to make big plays, then this one will be close and won in the 4th quarter. I think that a good running game and a decent passing game gives Somerset fits. I am sure Coach Perry and Donahue will have the defense ready to go; make someone other than John Cole beat you!!
