With the movement of Muhlenberg County and Ohio County into the district (both down from 6A), Grayson, Muhlenberg County, Ohio County, and Owensboro are all a very natural fit together. Graves County doesn't fit with anyone, so really no point taking them into account. Grayson County is only very, very slightly closer to Bowling Green than Christian County, but they're closer to both Owensboro and Ohio County, and not that much further than Christian County to Muhlenberg County (about 14 minutes). It made sense to me.

So it’s better to make Christian Drive the extra 15 Miles so that Grayson can have one game shorter than that distance to Ohio County? Grayson’s overall travel is longer by switching districts. Doesn’t make sense imo

Grayson County can be to every other school in their new district other than Graves in about as fast or faster than they get to the closest school in District 2, which is Bowling Green. Every other year their travel will be longer thanks to Graves, but that's just one game. And it's a trade I'm sure Grayson would make to avoid the heck out of District 2.

The bottom line to me is that both Christian County and Grayson County fit about as well with the Bowling Green schools. Grayson County pairs better with most of District 1 than Christian County does, with the notable exception of Graves County. It's possible that subtly the KHSAA also decided that it would be more competitive to have Christian County in District 2 than Grayson County. There is zero doubt that if you factored that in that this is a better setup.

 

If Christian County wants to be made at anyone, they should be mad at Barren County. They basically set this in motion moving up. If Barren County were still in 5A, Muhlenberg County wouldn't be. Barren County is a further western team, and there's no doubt that Grayson County would have been better suited for that district with the BG schools and Barren. Likewise, if there had been just one more western Kentucky school, like say a Marshall County (who declined to move down to 5A), or Hopkinsville (who accepted moving down to 4A), then you'd have likely seen a more pure East/West split in the districts, with Graves, Christian, Owensboro, and the other WKY school in District 1. Or if Logan County hadn't moved down to 4A when allowed to choose, then they get paired with the BG schools. It just all fell into place to mess up Christian County.

Totally agree! Pretty much what I was hinting at and you just nailed it. Actually looking forward to the new district should be some great football to watch.

4A District 6 is absolutely absurd. 2 1/2 hours between Covington and Boyd County, 2 hours between Covington and Rowan County, and 1 hour and 15 minutes between Covington and Harrison County. This seems like a ridiculous amount of travel for "district" games.

I agree, the travel sucks. But what is the best option (and please don't bring up the too many classes argument)?? Holmes and Scott are outliers with no other 4A schools close to them. There really is no district that you can stick them in without travel. A couple hours of travel for two games a year, really isn't that big of a deal.
