Wow these are pretty bold comments. I actually saw several of Boone County's players play this summer. I dont think I would start painting the town red just yet. A bunch of OJ Mayo's they are not. Your comments are more applicable to a Scott County or Lexington Catholic who I also saw play this summer. I'm sure Boone will have a very good team, but to dominate in the manner you indicate is unlikely.

 

I agree w/bjim. Boone will win the 9th Region w/little trouble if they keep their heads screwed on straight and avoid injury. Obviously there are alot of if's, and's and but's involved. You couldn't have seen too many Boone players this summer as only 4(if my memory hasn't failed) of them played AAU, if this is what you are talking about.

Just like I don't think Dale minds, and I don't think Mike Y. minded, I doubt Coach Fookes cares. She plays with who shows up.

 

 

Great comment. These coaches don't need to say or do anything to bring student/athletes to their respected schools. The program speaks for itself in all cases mentioned.

By the way, my daughter is one of the transfers and I feel no shame for moving to Florence for my daughter to be successful by playing bball and she is getting an education because I am making sure of that.

Who are all the good teams in the 9th, NDA and ? and ? and ?. Who else? I would never count my chickens before they are hatched. Look what happened to NDA last yr. They were a lock depending on who you were talking to. You have to admit that if we were all betting people we would all bet and take Boone to win the 9th region. Your payoff of course would be even money. All I am saying basically is that Boone has to be the favorite to win the 9th region.

Well by now it is quite obvious that athletics are No. #1 on a lot of parents minds and not an education or that their daughter (heaven forbid) might not be playing for the #1 team in the region. I have seen way too often parents sending the wrong messages to their children by "jumping ship" and heading to a program like Boone just so their daughter gets to be on the favorite. 3-pointer, if you were so sure that you wanted your daughter to go to Boone, why didn 't you move "to be closer to your job" and enter your daughter as a freshman. As long as these transfers continue to happen, it will be difficult to compete with those "un-recruiters". I admire the teams that succeed with the players they start off with as freshman. Those coaches can truly be proud of their programs, knowing they have done it without any stars transferring in. I can't help but cheer for those teams.

If you would have read all my post you would have read that I believe as long as things are done legally and by the book there is no harm in transferring. W/that said, I did make the move when necessary and she has been at Boone since her freshman yr.

 

Why is it so bad to want to be successful. Just because they are playing for Boone is no guarantee they will win the region and be #1 but they will be playing for the best coach, IMO. Nell is also great for molding and building strong character in the girls. My daughter could have chose to go anywhere and I would have made the move to make that possible, she chose to go to Boone, not me. I am not the one playing, heck, I almost made the move to Lexington and she would have went to LC. That move would have been due to a change in jobs not for bball.

 

What's funny here in NKY is that any time a kid transfers there is always something funny going on but if it is somewhere down state there usually is nothing talked about. I know a girls who played at 4 different schools and did not miss one yr due to eligibility problems. She wouldn't have survived here in NKY.

I guess it's obvious who makes the decisions in your family. Does she always get what she wants if she asks for it? There's nothing wrong with being successful, but those who take what they have and make the best out of it are the ones who are really successful. But as a parent, I can understand you want the best for your child and are willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy. And I commend you for moving into the district before she started at Boone instead of transferring. Many don't even do that. As long as you can live with your decision, I guess that's all that matters. Best of luck to you and your daughter. I hope in the future you will still be glad you made the move because there have been some who have been very disappointed.

She is a spoiled brat, what girl isn't? She doesn't ask for much only for what she needs. She needed to go to Boone and that is what she got. Everyone is happy, she is winning bball games, getting an education and getting letters from colleges to cont. her education by playing bball. I think this was a great move and will happily live w/it.

 

Playing at Boone isn't for everyone, that is a fact. The coach is very tough on them but it has made my daughter a much stronger person.

Regardless if we think you are wrong , you are doing what you think is best for your daughter and that is your job. I am glad to hear that your daughter is getting letters from colleges. That means that your aau coach or your previous high school coach did a good job at getting her seen , being she hasn't played for Nell yet. You are correct , Coach Fookes is a good coach but just anyone could not play for her. I have personally seen her scream and belittle some of these girls and have seen her grab them by the arm and shake them. No coach will ever grab my daughters arm. I am man enough to stand up for my daughter and assure you that will never happen.

I talked with 2 different athletic directors about coaching high school ball this season and if I were able to also be a sub teacher I would be coaching high school now. My job will not allow me to go teach at the school . I also have no ill feelings towards Coach Fookes . She is a great high school coach but I certainly do not put her up on the pedestal that you put her on. The only one that is worthy of being put on a pedestal is JESUS !! I have sat right behind Nell at several games and I can tell you IMO there are several NKY high school coaches that are equally as good as her. It is also funny to see and hear how these players truly feel about their High school teams and their aau teams. I have read several of the e-mails and texts from some of these players to some of the other girls and it is really sad. Sometimes the parents are doing what they think is best and all they are doing is hurting the kids. This should be a fun enjoyable time for them. In the end , our relationships with our kids is what is important not how many ball games they won.

Coach K you do not need to be a teacher or sub to be the head coach.

Ex. Bryson Warner Ryle's football coach, Bill Matteoli Ryle's state champion softball coach.

This is the United States and we as American citizens have the right to mention the name of JESUS if we wish , thanks. 8 of my 9 players have all recieved letters from colleges and they haven't played a day of their sophmore yr. as of yet. My point is if your daughter is out there playing and getting seen their will be scholarships for everyone.
