Regardless of what side of this issue you happen to be on people will always find a way to spin it in a fashion to suit their needs and wants. For those of us who have had a close up view of the situation for the past several years and are familar with a great deal of what 1st caused this talented young lady to 1st leave Ludlow and then do the same to Holy Cross after 2 years know that this was and is an absolute joke that she was declared eligibile at Boone Cty. The only thing that is a bigger joke is that the KHSAA once again turned their spinless backs to a blatant case of transferring based entirely for sports. This is just another reason why the KHSAA in its current form needs to be disbanded and a new governing body put in to place.

314, how far (and long) do we want the KHSAA to dig every time someone transfers? If the requirements for bonafide COA have been met, what more should the KHSAA do? Lets assume that you and I both know that the move was 100% entirely for basketball (you may know that - I do not). How exactly does the KHSAA prove that? Do they need to secretly record her telling her friend that's why she moved? Do they confiscate emails? How much taxpayer money do we really want to spend on such a trivial (in the big scheme of things) matter?

Understand where you are coming from and you make valid points. Wouldn't be too difficult. Go back and maybe interview the AD's at Ludlow and Holy Cross and yes even Boone Cty. Talk to the coaches from each school and actually do just a little footwork..They are a rather large organization and if they would get off their respective rear ends and enforce the rules they have on the books instead of offering up proposal after proposal year after year maybe they would see some of these situations for what they are and that is a clear violation of the rules.. As for this situation in particular people in NKY have been laughing at this whole thing for a number of years..

My question to all is "who cares?" IMO, the bottom line and determining factor is a bona fide MOVE. If all these families are willing to purchase another home and make the move, so be it. That is their choice to make that financial decision for their daughter to play bball at a higher level. Why doesn't anyone ever question the kids who live in Boone Co. and go to CCH/St Henry? What is the difference? Yes, they pay very high tuition(which is rediculous at the cost) for their child to get the Catholic Education? but that is the families choice to do that. Best thing is they don't have to move in order for their child to do this where if you want to attend the county school you better live in the school district or you have to move.

 

This subject will go on and on until we are all dead and gone. As someone eluded to how could the KHSAA prove a family moved for athletic purposes. It is my word against whoever wants to dispute me moving. I wanted a change so I moved, period. I moved and my daugher changed schools going into the 9th grade and she plays bball. I moved because I wanted a change of scenary, able to watch a better brand of bball played. This was my decision and her choice, are we criminals? Let our children go to school wherever they want, just so they are happy and get an education. Great if they play ball, just educate them.

The rule (Bylaw 6a) was followed exactly as it is written and was ruled upon accordingly. If the rule is changed then your accusation of “rule breaking” will have more merit.

 

Since you are familiar with NKY, are you aware that other schools have new transfers? Perhaps SK, St. Henry, and Highlands just to name a few. Are you aware that a player transferred out of Boone a couple of years ago to attend Ryle (her 3rd school in 3yrs)? Are you aware that Boone had two girls transfer out this summer? Are you okay with other transfers and the players that transfer from Boone?

As long as the rules are followed there isn't much I can say but I don't have to like it or agree with it.. Having watched this situation over the course of a few years it has become something of a comedy to many of us.. Just hate to see parents shop kids around like free agents.. No more loyalty to School, community or friends anymore is there? Just give me what I want for my kid now and the heck with the rest of it..

While I will not comment on any particular situation including the Behrens case, I believe your statement above to be true.

Just out of curiosity , is anyone on here defending this move other than the three Boone parents? I believe everyone has some valid points. I also believe it always looks different from the outside looking in, and from the inside looking out. I agree the KHSAA need to relook at some things in general.

 

In response to an earlier question , If Tamara had also transferred to Boone I believe they would easily have been a top 3-5 team. Anyone who watched this team play last yr. knows that even without Katie this should have been the team to beat this yr. IMO. (in their region). I am not counting out NDA, they were very impressive at times over the summer.

 

Its kind of funny, in aau , the national champions get all kinds of talk and hype for about a week after the tournament and then it is all but forgotten about. I guess my point is the main thing is Katie is happy. Whether right or wrong , in the end it is just a high school sport.
