My point is if your daughter is out there playing and getting seen their will be scholarships for everyone.

You did get excited and jump in my business. If I have everything right I am pretty sure I know who you are. My question is were these coaching jobs for the varsity level? If so, what were your qualifications other than coaching AAU bball?

I will agree about "out there playing" and getting seen and it did occur w/AAU, the best in the land. Your team isn't bad!

I coached elementary level for 3 yrs.

I have coached aau for 6 yrs. with a record of 331-402 which is about 82 %

We have won the state championship back to back and beat 4 teams that finished in the top 10 of the country losing to the national runner ups by 3

I have completed 2 coaching youth courses and am certified by both of those.

I am currently working on completing my third coaching course which is through the aau.

I am also currently attending night college so i will have the hours to become a "paired professional".

I have been in martial arts for 25 years and have been working with and teaching youth for the last 12 years. I am certified through the state of Ky. in the instructor program.

I have completed 280 hours of div.1 college coaching clinics and have 1 more scheduled for this yr.

I may not be the most qualified person out there but I assure you the ad's i talked with said that was more than enough.

On the bolded, I can verify that most AD's want a teacher in the building. It makes a lot of things much, much simpler. Plus, if there are discipline issues, a coach that is also a teacher has a lot more to lose and might think twice before someone that just has a coaching position to lose.

Great experience but no high school coaching experience. Most A.D.'s, IMO, would rather hire a person w/H.S. experience at least for a head V position.

These posts can be so entertaining! I mean that sincerely. This started off as a question about whether a player was eligible and sat out there for a week with hardly any response. Since Boone is one of my teams that I follow, I looked at this thread hoping for an answer to the original question. It turned into a hodge-podge as to

 

1. Why do parents select schools for their children;

2. Whether 3 point shooters daughter played at Boone;

3. Whether Coach K is qualified and can land a high school coaching job;

4. And finally the sound of school bells on math and grammar.

 

To summarize, it sounds like Behrens is playing at Boone (I think I read that in the thread but I can't remember now), parents select schools for their children for a multitude of reasons, Coach K has an extensive background in AAU coaching and apparently is looking for a high school coaching job (at least implied by night school, paraprofessional and substitute teaching comments) and 3 points daughter is playing at Boone and has played there before.

 

Maybe the title of this thread could be changed to "All My Girls B-ball" instead of "Is Behrens eligible".

 

Stay tuned for more- the season hasn't even started and we have this for entertainment...you just can't make this stuff up!

Coach K you must not be that good of a coach with that record it is a wonder you have any kids at all. Just kidding I am sure it is a typo. You rag on Nell about her style of coaching that she would never put a hand on your daughter and you are man enough to stand up to her sounds alittle condensending to me. Are you saying we are not man enough to stand up to her? If you had a boy would you allow the coach to grab him or wouldn't that be a manly thing to do. Nell realizes who she can grab and who she can't who responds to what type of coaching. If I had a problem with it I would have never sent my daughter there and if it ever crossed the line I would be "man enough" to step in. Stick to what you know and ask someone who does on the rest.

 

3pt shooter your memory is failing you the projected starting 5 on varsity played AAU and off the bench Behrens and findley both played that does not include any underclassmen that may have played. I think Sparrow sat this AAU season out.

You are correct about a couple things wrong about most. First off I am not Nell bashing, if I were I could add a bunch to this and I will not be doing that. Secondly , Nell doesn't know who she can grab and scream at. She had a player quit the team last yr. because of this very thing. The player called me that night and told me the whole story. This player went in and talked with Nell and I believe things got better. I respect Nell for changing at least towards this player. Thirdly , I am not measuring your manhood, you can read into it any way you would like. I would not allow a woman coach to put her hands on my daughter nor would any man coach put his hands on my son. It amazes me how people think that screaming or grabbing these kids is good for them. These are kids not adults , and I assure you there is a better way to teach and to help them.

 

For the record we are 331-71 which is still 82%

I also know this girl and her dad, there was alot more to it than you know. Once again if you do not know ask do not print what you are not 100% sure of. Once again it is only your opinion and your coaching style that you are preaching about. In AAU when you get the cream of the crop and most fundamentals are already instilled by other coaches you do not have to coach the marginal players that need that extra attention. Do not ever compare AAU with High School coaching it is apples and oranges. Since I have been around Nell for the last 6 years I stand by the fact that she gets the most out of her kids by her coaching style. Until you have been that High School coach don't preach about the best way to do it. Lastly I did not know this was a one on one conversation I thought this was a message board

cooty , I only know what the girl and her dad told me. They both called me the same night. You obviously think you know some things that maybe you just don't know. I have been around Nell much longer than 6 years rookie. She has helped several girls i know and am related to get into colleges. I do have much respect for her other than her coaching style. I have had most of my girls since they were 10 and they did not possess any fundamental skills at that time. If you don't know what your talking about do not print it. I know many many high school coaches, college coaches, and this yr. have met several nba and wnba coaches. Almost all of them that i have met disagree with that coaching style, at the high school level. Are you talking Boone getting the cream of the crop that have already been trained ? AAU and High School certainly is not the same there are good and bad on both sides of the fence. They both have come to the understanding that they need each other. I believe Boone has about 6 or 7 girls who have all played aau. 3 of them played for me way before Nell had them. She has continued to help their progress but I assure you they all had the fundamental skills before they came to high school. I agree with you , you should print what you know , not what you think.

I stand corrected. I said my mind was going. I did not know if Reed played this summer or not and I did not count Behrens because I posted before the cat got out of the bag about being eligible. I was told Findley was not playing to work on her volleyball. I know Sparrow and Bowling did not play AAU this summer but did work out to get ready.

 

Should be an interesting season.

funny how you have so much respect for Nell but you sure criticize on here either take one side or the other you would get more respect. You sure do know how to drop all your outstanding credentials for all to see on here by what you print you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. We should just bow down to you and anything you write....I mean with that 82% winning percentage and on and on and on.

cooty , I am not looking for respect from you or anyone else. I have said from the beginning i have a lot of respect for Nell but disagree with the way she coaches. 3 pt. shooter said it best , just anyone could not play for her. 3pt.shooter asked me what my qualifications are that is the only reason i posted our records and the other things about my qualifications. I certainly do not want you or anyone to bow down to me and I certainly am not the best coach ever , I met him last yr. I wish the best for you and Boone co. , like I said before three of your (imo) best players have played with me since they were 11. I know girls on every NKY team and I never root for one over another, but I always try and go watch all of them play. I will be at some of Boones games and as long as they aren't playing against the other girls from my team I will root for them. I only wish the best for those girls they all have brilliant college careers ahead of them if they so desire.

Can anyone imagine this Boone County team if Tamara Sneed would have transferred there like many had rumored.

Would have been interesting. Tamara and my daughter were teammates last year and part of this year till she quit AAU and played volleyball for a while. She practically lived with us for the whole summer and and a half and wanted to play for Boone but because of her family situation she stayed at Newport. She also did not want to let down her coach and her teammates.Beleive it or not we agreed with her it would be better for her to stay at Newport. She turned 18 this past summer and could have lived with us or another family that was close to her also in the florence area. So it just goes to show that all our interests at Boone are not just to win BB games we do care about these girls best interests.

Regardless of what side of this issue you happen to be on people will always find a way to spin it in a fashion to suit their needs and wants. For those of us who have had a close up view of the situation for the past several years and are familar with a great deal of what 1st caused this talented young lady to 1st leave Ludlow and then do the same to Holy Cross after 2 years know that this was and is an absolute joke that she was declared eligibile at Boone Cty. The only thing that is a bigger joke is that the KHSAA once again turned their spinless backs to a blatant case of transferring based entirely for sports. This is just another reason why the KHSAA in its current form needs to be disbanded and a new governing body put in to place.
