Maybe. But middle school football is generally a poor predictor of high school success. A good example is this years group of Cov Cath seniors didn’t win the NKMSAA as 8th graders. That team had two losses to Woodland (that feeds Scott).

 

For the most part, large schools don’t play the really small schools (Ludlow, Newport, Bracken, etc) in cross division games. They will pick up 2-3 games against schools in the medium school division. The rest are against other large schools.

 

One year Ludlow played woodland (both of which went on to win the large and small school

Championships) and the game was a 1 point game until late. You can’t really say some school can’t compete. If you have talent you will be able to play with anyone.

First, you don’t have to submit anything until the week before the regular season starts. Second, most teams with consistent coaching will run the same base offense/defense from year to year and tweak to fit their personal for that particular season.

I get that... but still... as a coach, I should be able to decide if I want to run an odd or even front anytime I want based on down/distance, score, opponent, or any other factor. At the 7/8th grade level, it's completely reasonably to have 2 or 3 base packages on offense and defense to leverage as needed.

Personally I’d rather do my adjustments within my scheme, rather than teach fundamentals of different schemes. I can show multiple looks on offense and defense out of one base scheme without changing techniques. It’s better to do one thing really good, than 2 or 3 things ok.

Middle school football should be about development. Many kids don’t start playing until 7th or 8th grade. No reason to confuse them any more than they already are. Keep it simple stupid.

I don’t know. Make sure they know how to properly get in a stance first, learn proper blocking techniques, learn how to tackle properly with your head up, keep everyone involved and having fun and go from there. Also I don’t think it matters what or how many defenses you run. Coach kids the right techniques, learn the game the right way and they will get better. If you can teach and the kids can execute, you can be successful, regardless of the number of defenses or sophisticated offenses you run.

Agree but that’s why you teach them a few things and not many. Make sure they can do one or two things well.

Seems to me it would be a safety issue not teaching them that kind of stuff.

To the question from before, Dayton & Bellevue will field a combined team this season, sponsored by the newly formed River City Football organization. (Formerly DYF & BYF). After this season when the schools have a full year to plan and when there are expected much better numbers for each team the schools will be taking on true separate Middle School programs. It will be a good move for both schools programs.

So how many teams are officially IN the Northern Kentucky Youth Football League now?

There will not be a true NKYFL senior division. Like discussed before, everyone involved knew this was coming and honestly have looked at options over the last couple seasons as to adapting the league.

 

Highlands will play the Norseman Conference. Dayton & Bellevue NKMSSA going forward. Red Devils & Bengal Tigers are still in the process of deciding which way to go with their senior programs.

 

As far as the NKYFL, the divisions will still be starters, midgets, juniors, along with more teams than ever fielding midget youth, and junior youth so I see those levels continuing to grow.

 

The league is also in the process of phasing in the new school age cut off (Aug 1). The goal being to make sure kids are aligning more with their grade level throughout. The original may 1st date aligned with baseball, but doesn’t make much sense anymore as the league has transitioned more towards school feeders and now eventually Middle school feeders.
