January 22, 20188 yr What do you think the Bengals should have learned after watching the playoffs this season?
January 22, 20188 yr 1) A serviceable QB can get you to the Superbowl. 2) You need a top 5 scoring Defense. 3) The offense has to have some semblance of balance. 4) Tom Brady and Bill Belichek aren't walking through that door!

The main thing I learned is you can have a top defense, good running game. But at the end of the day you have to have a qb who can make the plays when needed to make it all the way. Jags great defense and run game, but lost to the top qb. Vikings had one of the best defenses of all time based off stats, and a qb who until this game made plays. However in the game for the Vikings their qb couldn't make plays once they got down. While Philly qb made the plays. At the end of the day qb play is huge to win in the playoffs. Even serviceable qbs have to make plays for their teams to win.
January 22, 20188 yr What do you think the Bengals should have learned after watching the playoffs this season? Be aggressive. Also have a qb who can make plays that matters against other good teams. Each game that teams won, qbs made great plays. Sometimes those great plays came from extending the play and not just giving up on it.
January 22, 20188 yr Author Be aggressive. That is the most important lesson for Marvin. Jaguars take a knee with 55 seconds to go in the half and 3 timeouts. Plus they had to kick off the second half. Then they proceeded to play textbook Marvin Lewis in the lead in the second half football. As good as the Jaguars defense is, they still couldn't hang on for the win. You have to keep being aggressive in today's offensive-minded football. If you don't believe that because of one game Marvin, look at what happened in the Eagles game. They go down and score a field goal with 29 seconds to go in the first half. They never took their foot off the throttle and ended up with an easy win against an excellent defensive team. I believe one of the biggest reasons why Marvin Lewis doesn't win more big games and doesn't win in the playoffs is he is too conservative and puts too much of the load on his defense to win games. It doesn't work against quality teams in big games.

If your so concerned about a possible quick three and out or a turnover giving the ball back to the other team before half. Then you probably should have a different qb. You have to trust your offense to make a play and trust your defense to make a play if something happens and the offense messes up. Aggressive play and a qb who can make plays when needed. Wins playoff games.
January 22, 20188 yr What they should have learned -> A lot What they did learn -> Absolutely nothing

January 23, 20188 yr Author You have to continue to play to win. You cannot play not to loose, which IMO is what the Jags did. Keep your foot on the gas! Yep. And that is how Marvin coaches, especially big games when he has a lead - plays not to lose.
January 23, 20188 yr Doubt anything will change anytime soon. Mike Brown's idea of success is a black bottom line. Listening to the Mike Brown interview and reading all of the Daugherty articles, it is pretty obvious that Mike Brown leads the league in obliviousness.
February 1, 20188 yr What do you think the Bengals should have learned after watching the playoffs this season? Doubt Marvin learned anything (probably didn't watch and was out "chopping wood"), and Mikey is probably busy figuring out how much he'll save by not making the playoffs? Seriously, I doubt they learned anything as listening to Mike Brown's interview, he's already got it all figured out. Marvin's answer to everything is "We've just got to do better at..................". Guessing he thinks he'll "will" the team to be better next year? On another note, why would Marvin ever play cautious; he's essentially got a lifetime contract?
