Teacher Speaks Out After Arrest For Criticizing Boss''' Raise

 

Teacher was arrested during a school board meeting in which she questioned how the superintendent could get a $38k raise and car when teachers hadn't had a raise in over 10 years. The board president had her arrested as her question didn't pertain to the meeting. The article or video doesn't mention it, but in the audio I heard yesterday, the superintendent's raise was on the agenda, just not the specifics.

 

Now, I don't know how the school system works when it comes to pay increases, but $38k plus a car seems pretty steep. Therefore, I can see why the teachers are questioning it if they haven't seen an increase in over 10 years.

If it was an unlawful arrest no doubt it would be the city or wherever the officer works first and foremost, but I believe it will cost the school system too.

If she was told to leave and refused, then I do not see how it is an unlawful arrest. I've been teaching for 13 years and I can think of several times where teachers got a little too big for their britches and ended up getting themselves in trouble.

 

Also, Superintendents do not give themselves raises. The school board, that is elected by the citizens, give the raise. You can't get mad at someone for accepting a raise.

I agree.

 

The authorities, being the Officer and whoever was in charge of that meeting, either had a legal right to make/request the teacher leave or they didn't have a legal right to make her leave.

 

This all should be so black and white according to the law.

 

Hopefully more details will come out about the incident.

I'd be curious to see video. Was she unruly? Was she calm? Did the superintendent overreact?

Regardless of what we might think about the financials involved, she should have been arrested.

No, nothing like that.

 

I watched it on the news last night and it seemed pretty evident that she was not being at all cooperative with the officer.

 

That's where I am coming at it from. Maybe the school board overstepped its bounds, but her treatment of the officer merited the arrest IMO.
