If Mercer County doesn't win state then whoever stops them is just the better team. They aren't going to blow anything. They are too well coached.

Good point. With the merge Mercer is more capable of sustaining injuries then the rest in AA.

No doubt, Mercer will beat themselves before a team in 2A defeats them. That is just my opinion, I just believe that with the loads of talent Mercer has at different positions may be too much for the rest of 2A. Extremely well coached with the luxury of having an experienced QB that isn't even playing QB. It would take 5+ major injuries for Mercer to become a lesser team. let's be honest, they are a 3-5A team playing in 2A and I just think it will be too much for most 2A teams to handle. The merger, albeit coincidental, couldn't have came at a better time. Things are really looking good for Mercer County right now.

Maybe more than most of AA. Russell has 64 players on its roster(10-12) and has already survived injuries to three starters. Hopefully two will be back for the playoffs but there is plenty of depth. Backups had to step in last year and played a major role in Russell's state championship.

This isn't necessarily a good comparison, because you are comparing Corbin's district to an entire region.

 

Corbin is at best the #3 team in their region, behind Western and LaRue County. And they would be probably be the #2 team in Russell's district.

Alright, well I retract the previous statement.

 

I feel that Corbin's district may be the weakest in the state. If you put the Redhounds into either Region 4 District 7 or 8 they would be the 3rd best team in both districts, maybe even the # 4 team.

I don't know that Corbin's district, once you take out the top team, is any worse as a group than the teams that are lagging well behind Russell.

I think it's pretty funny that you only included the BIG 4, so to speak.. What BIG 4 may that be?...I don't think any of the "BIG 4" have had enough success to warrent the name...Westerns never even been to a championship, much less won one...Russell won last year, but, certainly 1 year doesn't warrent it, Mercer Co has no past tradition or success at all to justify it. Belfry probably warrents the name more than the rest, but, I could name a dozen teams who've accomplished as much the past 3-4 years and certainly ones who've done it alot longer....

You act as if one of these teams is a lock to win it...We may as well tell Caldwell, Ft Campbell, Oboro Cath, Trigg Co, Middlesboro, Breathitt, Larue, Sheldon Clark and others, not to bother playing the games...

 

 

Russell doesn't warrent the name? What more do they have to do? They won the state championship last year and every year they're making very deep playoff runs. And if Belfry does deserve the name than nobody does. Year in and year out they're competing very deep also not to mention 2 state titles in the last 3 years. Nobody has acted like anybody is a lock to win it all, well maby the Mercer fans but certainly nobody on this thread. It's a thread about districts and not about dogging anyone. Come on, Lighten up a bit. Anyone who knows anything about football knows anyone can win it and the best team doesn't always win it.

There's no doubt that Russell plays in the weakest district in 2a, if not the state. Even the 3rd and 4th teams in that district ( East and West Carter) are not good at all. All of their wins have come against very mediocre competition.

We're talkiing in the context of district competition. Russell doesn't play themselves ... they play the other teams in their district. I don't know that Russell's competition is better than Corbin's, and vice versa. They look pretty comparable to me.
