Dixie's New Field

Featured Replies

Don't know how much $....my question is: why are they not seeding that field! I realize it's past the optimum time of year, but with the dry and warm weather these past weeks...it seems that they would have jumped at the opportunity to get some seed down? Maybe it's a waste of seed at this point? Just wondering...I'm hoping there's a slight chance of playing on it sometime this season....

See post 18.

Just heard today that there is not enough funding for the sod and the decisin has been made to forego this season and plant grass. That puts the Red Colonels back at Turkeyfoot for one more season. Haven't gotten any official confirmation yet, but got that from a pretty reliable source.

Over? OVER? OOVER!?

..you're killin me S.M.A.-LLS !!!

I drove by the school last week. The baseball field won't be ready for this year unless they find money to lay sod. Even with that, I highly doubt it'll be playable. The netting is up along the homerun wall, even though the wall isn't in place yet. They also have the netting up between the practice field and parking lot. The softball looks as though it may be playable this year. The grass is coming up in the outfield. All-in-all, there's still a lot of work to be done.

That's a good one:D .

Talked to the softball coach last night they will sod the baseball field next week.

NEW FIELD DELAYED - Dixie Heights baseball coach Chris Maxwell doesn't expect the new field being built on the high school campus to be ready for the upcoming season.

Maxwell said the outfield wasn't seeded during the fall and it's getting too late to do it now. He considered buying sod for the field, but he would have to wait for it to take root.

"To pay $18,000 (for sod) and only get 10 games on it wouldn't be real prudent," Maxwell said.

"If I thought we could get it done and be on it in April I'd probably do it. It looks like we're just going to wait and seed it instead."

The Colonels will play their home games at Turkeyfoot Junior High School until the on-campus field is ready.

Maxwell said the field will be a "hitter's park." The distance between home plate and the outfield fences will be 300 feet down both lines and 350 feet to deep center.
