Cherokee County (AL) 70 Owsley County 15

I talked to someone who was at the game and they said Cherokee was just too big and fast for the young Owls, who start a freshman, 3 sophomores, and a junior. And basically an all guard lineup in size.

Definitely on top of it.

Owsley had four players who played key minutes last year that decided for one reason or another not to play basketball this year. Two of them were starters. So this team is extremely inexperienced, small, and young. When they play against bigger, quicker, and deeper teams, such as this game, it’s not going to be good. Fortunately our region is not overloaded with teams of that caliber.

How is Owsley doing in their other games?

They’re 5-6 for the season.

Would love to know the backstory on why 4 returning players decided not to play this year. Especially the two returning starters.

The starting center simply decided he didn’t want to play his senior year. Exactly why, I don’t know.

A starting guard transferred to another school in the region.

Another substitute guard decided not to play his senior year. I’m not certain that he’s still enrolled at Owsley County. He lives in Lee County

A fourth player would have been a junior this year and would have probably been a sub but would have added depth. One of his relatives told me he said he had lost interest in playing basketball.
