Maybe it was a combination of snell pushing the refs hands away and saying something not nice about why there was no late hit/personal foul on his tackle.

Possibly, but they said it was for 'contact with an official' so shouldn't have influenced that specific foul, but who knows.

I'm rooting like crazy for Northwestern, of course. But to eject the Kentucky RB - who happens to be their best player - for THAT is a travesty.

Like other posters indicated, couple the not wanting to hold hands with the head ref and maybe a few magic words, but hell this ain't pee wee ball.
