Metcalfe 33 Russellville 0

Featured Replies

Well Metcalfe put it on Russellville today. Russellville had opurtunities in the first quarter but didn't capitalize, and Metcalfe dominated the rest of the game. Congratulations on a good win to Metcalfe, and hopefully we will see you guys in the second round. But we will have to drastically improve our line play, and our play selection if want the result to be any different. Good luck the rest of the season.

Excellent win for Metcalfe. I thought this one would be alot closer..Looks like they're clearly the cream of the crop in Dist 2, 1a...

What is there record now?

Who have they lost to?

Are they deservent of a Top 10 ranking or at least consideration?

Anyone?

Wow, what can I say. I didn't expect this one from Metcalfe, I thought that Russellville had played the better season out of the two. Is Metcalfes' defense just that good? Can't believe that Russellville couldn't put any points on the board, this is a real shocker!!

I was not suprised by the win, but by the margin I was.

From what I have heard it sounds like Metcal controled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball overwhelmingly. This will mean a much longer road trip for Mayfield in the playoffs because there is no one in the first district that can even get close to beating Metcal other than Mayfield and west travels east this year

It does not matter anyways because the first two rounds are within your own district anyways.

'Pick, what is Mayfield's pass defense like this year? Bethlehem scrimmaged Metcalfe this year and the coaches tell me that Will Warf generals a legitimate air attack.

bug

your right about the first 2 rounds I'm had a brain freeze but my original point is that unless Metcal gets beat in round #1 or #2 (assuming they are dist champs which they will be) we will have to travel there and there is forever and a day away BUT should someone knock them off then we would beable to stay at home for an extra week

Its okay, not as tested as I would like and we have been burned some but overall its okay meaning not great but not terrible = average

I don't think seeding matters now. Only the district number (odd or even) does. I think Mayfield is on the road in the third round, regardless of the opponent.

On top of the offensive struggles for Russellville, there were a lot of penalties and miscues for the Panthers. Late season mistakes that shouldn't take place like 12 players on the field, or getting the offensive play calls in late and players not knowing whether they should be on the field. Once Metcalfe got up by 21, the Panthers started hanging their heads a bit and Metcalfe kept comin'. I hope the Ville can gain a grip on their offensive identity, because they've came out of the gates slow several times this year on the offensive side of the ball, speed kills though, and they got that.

For Metcalfe, they are pretty solid, they just do what they do and dare you to stop them. Base run plays like Iso, Sweep, and Power, mixed with play action. Warfe (sp?) is a good QB, and their line keeps firing off and wears opponents down on both sides. They have a decent passing game.

Neither team looked to have much quality depth. Metcalfe is solid but from looking at the sideline they are an injury away from trouble. Russellville isn't much better, but they do have some depth in the skill player department. Either way best of luck to both of them...it was a good game atleast in the first half.

Mayfield would get the 3rd round playoff game at home if the winner of the other district is a lower seed. If the two teams are tied for the same seed in the third round then that is where west travels east. So if the two #1 seeds meet in the third rounds...say for example Mayfield and Metcalfe...then Mayfield would travel, but say Russellville is #2 and comes out into the third round then they would have to travel west to Mayfield. Then in substate West does travel East no matter the seeding.

Hope this clears it up some.

Looking at the Class A bracket on the KHSAA website, it appears that you are correct. I'm not sure I agree with that, considering that both teams will be considered district champions. It looks like one other thing the KHSAA didn't think all the way through ... ;)

This is also my understanding of it

I agree with what you are saying, but i guess that the powers that be figure that this way you do actually get rewarded for being the #1 seed or a higher seed depending on how the playoff shakes out. Wish they would have left things alone seeing how we are switching it all around next year anyway.
