Danville Area Teams

Featured Replies

Calhoun and Miller have good speed but Jackson, Ford and Walker from Mercer are a little faster.Go to a track meet this spring and watch them run against each other. Lincoln has a good team with a couple of guys with good speed but their team speed is not nearly as good as Mercer's or Danville's.Lincoln has beaten Danville one time in school history. I'm not counting 2004 when Danville won by 50 and had to forfeit because of inelgible player playing the last play of the game but that's another story. They haven't played since and probably won't for a long time.

Several Lincdoln boys have played for d-ville over the years....but thats another story.:sssh:

I recall some other people badmouthing LC team speed this year. Would love to see Mercer and LC meet, guess we will have to wait to next year.

Hey, I believe that's going to turn into a great rivalry.

Track Meets and football speed are totally different. I know that PRP and GRC didn't have anyone that could catch Miller or Calhoun on the field and they both had some kids that can run. It's a toss up and too bad neither of these teams play this year because they would be good football games, and good for the area.

I will say that behind Boyle, Lincoln has played the second toughest schedule in the area.

Neither Calhoun nor Miller run track for Lincoln. Unless they decide they want to for their senior year. They've always been in the weight room hitting it hard in the spring. It would be fun to watch them run against each other, and I'm sure Miller and Calhoun would love to see who was faster amongst themselves. A couple years ago the track team and the football team were both doing workouts on the track, and Coach French threw together two 4X100 teams, just for fun and see what they could do against Lincolns track team. One team had Miller and Calhoun the other Rogers and one of the Reeds, both teams beat the track team.

But back to the subject I think all three teams (Lincoln, Danville, and Mercer) are pretty evenly matched with ability and coaching. On any given day any of these teams could beat the other, but atleast this topic of who's number 1an expand to three unlike the past. That's speaking a lot of the area, maybe title town can expand it's boundries a little this year (hopefully in two directions).

How do you know that? As far as I know, they have never raced....especially in full pads with would-be tacklers coming from all directions. Football speed and track speed are two completely different things! Miller and Calhoun have proven themselves and your statment is more of the same Mercer-puffery. Nobody is as big, as good, as fast or as dominant as the mighty Titans. This broken record is getting old.

Lincoln has beaten Danville one time in school history.

....and Mercer has beaten Lincoln County one time in school history and that was in 1978. The last time they played (1999), Lincoln won 41-14. When was the last time Mercer County beat Danville?

Lincoln co owns Mercer if you do research. Mercer has never beaten Danville. I think he was just throwing his opinion about who was faster. It's hard to take someones intentions when reading in message form somtimes. That's how the snowball effect of everyone thinking the Mercer faithful are arrogant. Buffalo was just stating his opinion. I think we should all be proud of our teams and proud of our area. Like I've said before, I wish the Bob Allen Classic was between the Ads,Pats,Rebels, and the Titans every year. Good luck to everybody the rest of the season and let's hope our teams continue to take pride in protecting our area from all challengers.

I have done the research and Lincoln County leads the 7 game series with Mercer County 6 games to 1.

I am pretty sure that Buffalo Gap was trying to state a fact, not an opinion, when he offered that "...but Jackson, Ford and Walker from Mercer are a little faster.Go to a track meet this spring and watch them run against each other."

While the grammar, syntax and punctuation may not be perfect, I can infer that he wants us to watch Miller and Calhoun run against Jackson, Ford and Walker. One could make the case that he wants us to watch the three Mercer Countians run amongst themselves but that would be illogical in light of his statement that those three are a little faster.

I am not a Mercer County hater. In fact, I am a HUGE fan of head coach Marty Jaggers and Mercer County Superintendent Bruce Johnson. They both held those same positions in Lincoln County in the 1990's and were very productive and successful. I would truly like to see them, and the Titans, win a state championship. But, I would like to enjoy it without having it crammed down my throat by Mercer fans.

Just so we are clear and I will presume to speak for Lincoln County fans here, we recognize the 2006 Mercer County High School football team as a great one. We acknowledge the speed of your running backs, the power and size of your line and the toughness of your defense. We know your team is well-coached and plays hard.

However, we will not concede that Mercer County's football team is any better than Lincoln's until the two teams line up and fight it out for 48 minutes, nor will we concede that your stable of running backs are any better or faster than LC's or that you have any more overall team speed or that you are better coached. We are happy with our team and think we can line up and play very well against your Titans. Until the 2007 season when the two teams meet in the regular season as 5A district foes, we will not know the answer to those many questions. In fact, we will never know the answers to the questions concerning the 2006 teams as they will never play each other.

I guess the best part about all of this is that both the Patriots and Titans can be successful in 2006 as they play in different classes. Good luck to both.

Maybe it isn't my place to say, but after watching Garrard County compete with both of these teams on back-to-back weeks (September 1 and September 8), I thought that Lincoln might have held a slight edge.

Now, I've seen Lincoln twice since then and haven't seen Mercer again, so I'm not sure how much better the Titans have got comparable to Lincoln, but I would imagine that most likely they are on a somewhat-level playing field.

In the end, these two don't play each other and won't until some time next season. All-in-all, this is nothing more than an opinion thread with no possible way of verifying the results. Just make you pick and move on; don't get mad at other posters!

THANKS Mr. Network

Don't thank me, thank the coaches and boys. I am happy to have a team to talk about again.

Not sure if this is directed at me but I am not mad at anyone (at least not on this board;) ).

I enjoy the debate but lets keep the opinions separate from the facts.:thumb:

When an opinion is asserted as a fact, it calls for a rebuttal.

Well, I respect your opinions completely. The only time you will see me make an arrogant statement is when someone pokes at me first. I'm a fan of every team in this area when we arent playing them.

No, no, not directed at you at all, Mr. Network. You should know better than that! I enjoy your weekly "Area Rankings," but some people tend to make predictions that they consider to be known facts (rebuttal!). I was just laying out some guidelines for future posting!

I am not big on comparing scores but taking a look at the games against common opponents may shed some light on just how close Lincoln County and Mercer County would play. I understand that comparing scores does not take into consideration how the two teams matchup against each other.

In 2006, Lincoln and Mercer both played Garrard County and South Laurel:

vs. Garrard County

Mercer County won 49-0

Lincoln County won 41-0

vs. South Laurel

Mercer County won 53-6

Lincoln County won 56-7

Against the two combined

Mercer County scored 102 points total; 51 per game average

Lincoln County scored 97 points total; 48.5 per game average

Mercer County gave up 6 points total; 3 per game average

Lincoln County gave up 7 points total; 3.5 per game average
