Danville Area Teams

Featured Replies

I am not big on comparing scores but taking a look at the games against common opponents may shed some light on just how close Lincoln County and Mercer County would play. I understand that comparing scores does not take into consideration how the two teams matchup against each other.

In 2006, Lincoln and Mercer both played Garrard County and South Laurel:

vs. Garrard County

Mercer County won 49-0

Lincoln County won 41-0

vs. South Laurel

Mercer County won 53-6

Lincoln County won 56-7

Against the two combined

Mercer County scored 102 points total; 51 per game average

Lincoln County scored 97 points total; 48.5 per game average

Mercer County gave up 6 points total; 3 per game average

Lincoln County gave up 7 points total; 3.5 per game average

That's kind of what I've said recently. I remember post on the South Laurel game with Lincoln having both of their backs going over 200 yards and Mercer had the same. Neither team passes the ball much and the score of both games were almost the same. I think that Lincoln and Mercer arent that far off from being mirror images of each other. Both have great coaching. French spent time at Mercer and Jaggers spent time at Lincoln. It's a little eery.

Wont they both be in 5A next year? The connections are troubling:creepy: :creepy:

French was head coach at Mercer County for 15 years, Meade County for 15 years and is now in his third season at Lincoln County. Jaggers was head coach at Lincoln County for 6 years, then an assistant at Danville for 8 years and is in his 2nd season as the head coach at Mercer County.

Lincoln tends to pass a little more than Mercer. According to the statistics posted at the KHSAA website, Lincoln County has passed for 398 yards (as of 10/2/06) while Mercer County has passed for only 146 yards (as of 10/9/06).

For Mercer, Coach Jaggers is the Offensive Coordinator. At Lincoln, assistant Coach Clay Clevenger (Danville grad) is the OC.

The connections aren't what they seem.

French left Mercer County after the 1988 season. Jaggers left Lincoln County after the 1996 season. Their tenures are both ancient history in terms of high school football.

Has Mercer play any quality opponents this year? Also how have they already combined and still are playing in the 2A conference as a 5A school?

I think we have had this discussion at least five thousand times already this season. Mercer absorbed Harrodsburg into their system, making a bigger (but not new) Mercer County High School. They changed their nickname so that Harrodsburg wouldn't completely lose everything to Mercer County.

Districts have previously been set in stone for two- or four-year intervals. In the most recent alignment (2003-2006), if a school increased or decreased in enrollment by 10%, they would be subjected to a classification change. Those changes were made before last season, the reason for Lincoln County's move into Class AAAA. Since there was no re-classification scheduled for this season and with new alignments coming out next year, there were no grounds for changing Mercer County's classification, thus keeping them in Class AA.

Hopefully that will answer the question one and for-all for this season!

There is no 5A this year in Ky high school football! Danville is a 1A school that has beat three 3A opponets.Mercer was going to be a good football team this year with or without the merger!

There aren't any 5A schools in the state this season.

I assume you have been out of country or not on this site for about 6 months!!!:D :D

Don't thank me, thank the coaches and boys. I am happy to have a team to talk about again.

I agree, great to have a team to talk about again in Death Valley, I believe the entire STATE is talking about this team.

Heres a thought on what WE could all do, this is a thread that will be beat to death, all in fun of course, heres hoping that Danville (Class A), Mercer (Class AA), Boyle (Class AAA) and Lincoln Co. (Class 4A), all four are playing at the pizza box on the 1st weekend in December!! Talk about great football in small town America, not to mention just in Kentucky. Four small town, county schools all within 20 miles of one another playing for a title!! :thumb: :jump:
