It seems you are trying to put Yuengling in a class that it doesn't belong. When compared to the mass produced national labels (which is the beers in this tournament) it's at or near the top. If you want to compare it to the higher end craft type beers then your right.

Overall it's an average beer. Many, many people proclaim it as much more than that. Hence, it's overrated.

I think it's a really good beer but also put it in the proper perspective of class.

I'd venture to bet that most of those people that proclaim it to be more than it is, don't drink craft beer.

I was probably one of them a while back before I discovered the greatness that is craft beer.

For the discussion we are having here, Yuengling is a well above average beer.

I think most craft beers are over rated.

Some people talk about craft beers like hipsters talk about obscure music being so much better than music on the radio.

To each their own. For example, I thought Ernie carried Bert on Sesame Street.

Yeah, I don't get the hype. I enjoy one now and again but if I am casually drinking and plan on having a few it wont be a craft beer. They make me full and feel sick after about 2. Maybe I am a wimp :idunno:

For me, it's a variety of reasons, in no particular order:

More Alcohol

More Flavor

More Variety

Enjoy the atmosphere of breweries

Enjoy the discussion about different craft beers and breweries. It's become more of a hobby than just having a beer.

For some reason, when it comes to beer, I enjoy giving my money to the small companies and not the major corporations with all their tactics to push out the little guy.

The side that will make me sound like an alcoholic:

If I want a beer or two, I want it to be something that actually has flavor to it.

If I want to get a nice buzz, I can do that with 2-4 beers depending on the ABV vs. 8-10 domestics.

Craft beer has also completely steered me away from bourbon, which my wife would say is a good thing.

But I don't care what anyone else drinks. Just care what is in my hand and fridge.

Those are all definitely good reasons for drinking Craft, I like the idea of supporting the little guy.

I like some craft beers like the ones we sell but some people talk about them like they are necture from God Himself when I would be just as happy with a Yuengling, Fat Tire, Killians, Becks, etc..

Exactly! I like some craft beers and I'm glad to see local small breweries doing well and I hope they continue to do so. However, it always makes me laugh when I see someone call Yuengling overrated while thinking some over hopped, nasty, bitter beer is the most phenomenal thing ever. I think you hit the nail on the head with the hipster reference! :lol2:

I have some unfortunate news about Fat Tire...

Put me in the nectar of God camp when drinking something by Hoof Hearted, Trillium, Treehouse and even a few of the local breweries in Cincy putting out some amazing beers lately. Had an awesome on by Listermann last night.
