Non-smokers get six days extra paid leave to make up for smokers' cigarette breaks

Featured Replies

I don't smoke, but here's my 2 cents.

The person who walks outside and smokes alone usually isn't an issue at my workplace, as they take very little time. The time killer are the 3-4 who can't smoke alone, and then end up huddled in a group gossiping and taking 10-15 minutes at a time.

We do a have a running joke that my boss gets an extra week of vacation by only crapping at work.

I have a co-worker in another department that takes advantage of this as well. He'll be here well before it's time to clock in, but won't use the facilities until after 8:00. Same thing with lunch (clocked out). I'll see him in the break room, finished eating, and just sitting around talking. As soon as it's time to clock back in, he does, and heads to the bathroom. And it's not just a quick minute or two that he's in there.

As a non smoker I’m all for this. Being out in the world of maintenance service I see smokers get passes on time all the time. If I’m in my work van idling and reading the paper I’ve had the customer call my boss and say I was screwing off. Like Wise I’ve been with plenty of guys who take smoke breaks in said work vans and nothing

Is said. I had my field supervisor sneak up on me and catch me reading the paper after my 15 minute break time was over. He was all over me, turn the corner of building and two of my co workers are burnin cigs and he doesn’t bat an eye

Nice little ditty. not as catchy as B double E double R un LOL

Well that's just flat out discrimination. :lol2:

Seriously though just because someone smokes doesn't make them a bad worker. Smoking is just some peoples way to maintain calm or a stress reliever. Ppl could be doing a lot worse. Id love to see the day I can have a beer or bourbon break at the office but while moral may increase I'd say productivity would diminish dramaticly

From these articles there has been research that shows the average smoker has a lower IQ and cost the company more money than non smokers. Sounds like Wildcat's company may just be on to something.

Not going to lie I've been known to take lengthier bathroom breaks to get on BGP. I have no shame.

Can you come over to my house today? I need to split some fire wood. I plan on starting right after my 11:30-1:00 conference call.

They paying you to be on BGP all day?

Matter of fact they are. I’m on salary and still get paid if I’m on a plane on a Sunday flying somewhere or pop on BGP when a report is downloading or I need to download after a brilliant decision is made.

At least BGP will not give you cancer.

Plus Friday’s are half days ?

I'm salary. May I get some sort of compensatory consideration to equal out the number of hours hourly staff sit in the break room waiting for the clock to get to punch out time? Seriously, the break room is on the other side of my office wall. Daily from about 3:30-4 it sounds like a big party and at 4-whoosh! A mass Exodus.
