October 29, 20178 yr Report: Florida Gators parting ways with football coach Jim McElwain GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After a tumultuous week capped by a 42-7 loss to No. 3 Georgia, third-year Florida coach Jim McElwain parted ways with the program Sunday with four weeks left in the 2017 regular season. Football Scoop was the first to report the news. According to The Gainesville Sun’s Robbie Andreu, the players have been informed of the decision.
October 29, 20178 yr Author Report: Florida asked Jim McElwain to take a smaller buyout Though it appears Florida coach Jim McElwain won’t be coaching the Gators next week, the details of his departure from the school are still being worked out. According to an ESPN.com report, one of the big sticking points is McElwain’s $12.76 million buyout, which is obviously a hefty sum of money even for a Power 5 program like Florida. The report states that Florida administrators are currently meeting with McElwain and have asked him to accept a smaller buyout so the school can move on. Why McElwain would accept a lesser buyout is anyone’s guess, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few hours.
October 29, 20178 yr Author I guess at this point they are still negotiating his removal...mean while Butch Jones is preparing for Home Coming in Knoxville!
October 29, 20178 yr They don't want to pay the buyout. They were discussing whether they could fire him for cause for his comments last week. My guess is they are trying to leverage this for a smaller buyout.
October 29, 20178 yr I expect Scott Frost or Matt Campbell Campbell would be rolling the dice again. You have to win at Florida. Frost could probably win there. I still think Charlie Strong would be a good fit, Texas was the wrong place at the wrong time.

I still think Charlie Strong would be a good fit, Texas was the wrong place at the wrong time. I think outside of Chip Kelly, Campbell is the safest bet. I don't think it's rolling the dice at all. I think the guy is a winner. If you can win at Iowa State you can win at Florida.

Took him a year to get everything together at ISU. But he turned Toledo into a top 25 program and now he has ISU in the drivers seat of the Big 12. He'd be my first call outside of the names like Kelly, Gruden, etc.
October 30, 20178 yr Chip Kelly or Les Miles, anyone else would be risky IMO. Both of these coaches have proven that they can win in college football.
October 30, 20178 yr Author Chip Kelly or Les Miles, anyone else would be risky IMO. Both of these coaches have proven that they can win in college football. They definitely will go after Kelly and I'd be shocked if he isn't named coach. I think Les is too much like McElwain philosophy wise for Florida to go after him.

I agree Florida hasn’t had a flashy offense in quite sometime and Chip Kelly can definitely provide that. If they get him I look for him to return Florida Football back to where it once was when Urban was there.
