I'm not usually one to roll my eyes, but I couldn't help it when I read that quote on Saturday morning. If you don't want to take anything away from your opponent, then don't say anything at all. You sure as hell don't make excuses, then turn around in your next breath and say that you don't want to make excuses.

JC is the still the team to beat and I think is the better team but it's close. Ashland played hard and left it on the field Friday night. JC knows that have to bring their A game to win and Ashland has and can win so a rematch at Putnam would be an unbelievable atmosphere and a GREAT game.

 

No doubt. Ashland will be brimming with confidence and JC will be more than a little salty and looking for payback if/when the rematch happens. Putnam would be electric!

Is there an argument to be made that JC lost this game more than Ashland won it? Were the 4th quarter fumbles self inflicted or did the Tomcats force those turnovers?

Ashland D forced the turnovers and helped secure the W. That Ashland D was on the field a long time in the 2nd half too and was tired but made the plays when needed. Ashland Coaches and the players had a perfect game plan against Central, pin them deep and make them drive the length of the field. Ashland had 2 fourth and 1s in the second half both inside JC territory. They normally most games would go for it. This game they punted and pinned JC inside the 2 on one and around the 15 on the other. I also was shocked Matney started throwing after Ashland took the lead but he wins more then his share of games doing things you normally don't expect them to do. I do believe Love and his staff surprised JC with their offensive game plan. JC loaded the box and played man coverage but every time JC took their safety out of the middle of the field or Ashland dictated it, Ashland threw deep over the middle and hit most of them. Defensively Ashland's played their base D with a twist. Their 4 man DL would shift left or right just before Central snapped it. Also Ashland would sometimes walk a LB up and put him in a stance over the center to make a 5 man front. The biggest change though was Ashlands Middle Linebacker would line up behind another Middle Linebacker stacked about 2 yards or so and would shoot a gap as they snapped the ball. Was a great game plan and we avenged a lot of demons Friday night.

Their field goal extra point kicker soccer player broke his leg in regional game so they went for 2 after every score. Also one of their starters on the DL was sick didn't play.

There's a lot of option related ball handling in Johnson Central's offense. Could have been some unforced errors on JC's part.

They were not mishandles both happened in front of me. One was a huge hit the other was Ashland gang tackling and holding up the ball carrier while others stripped it out.

Well that kicker is done so they need to figure that one out. A lineman can be a significant loss but not sure it's game changing.

Yes I believe so but think the kid would have to go through the mandatory practices without and with pads to play.

Lloyd just beat Newport Catholic by 30 points last week. CAL has three nice wins including one over a 6A school without their quarterback. New Cath's win over CAL is definitely a bigger upset then number 5 Ashland beating number 1 Johnson Central.

After reviewing Johnson Central's scheduled, I changed my mind.

Ashland is 8-2 and has won 6 straight games. They are 8-1 vs. Kentucky teams. They aren't a bad team.

 

More proof this win by Ashland was not a bigger upset than Newport Catholic beating CAL.
