Point of comparison: Road teams 46-45 thru week 6. Last year they were 39-53. 1st time since 2000 road teams over 500 this late in the year

That's a pretty crazy stat IMO. Home field means virtually nothing this year.

Both of last season's Super Bowl participants have each lost twice at home already.

So is home-field advantage in the NFL overhyped? Does it really exist?

Probably depends on the team to an extent. I don't have the number to back it, but sure seems the Saints are better at home.

I don't think it exists in the regular season. In a 16-game season where you can lose six or seven times and still make the playoffs it doesn't matter than much if you lose here or there. Players are so far removed from the fans in the stands and there aren't many disruptive traditions that involve pro teams/fans. Players are treated well, live well, eat well, etc. It isn't as if they've ridden a bus for two hours and walk into a stadium where fans are hanging over the edge.

Bottom line, the players are in similar to actors on a stage. The best actors tend to perform well no matter the stage.

Home field/cout advantage is way overhyped.

In professional sports I agree with this.

Football and baseball typically do not have as big of a home-field advantage but there is definitely some advantage. However, the bigger home advantage is in basketball.

I wonder what the record is for West Coast teams playing in the East, and vice versa? If there's a trend there in favor for the home team, I'd think it has little ,if anything, to do with the actual field/fans as much as it does the time zone difference.

It's traditionally a great bet to go against West Coast teams shipping east and playing in the 1pm time slot. I don't know how well that's held up this year, though.

There are a couple in pro sports: Arrowhead, Century Link, Yankee Stadium. But nothing like home field advantages in college sports. Not even close.
