Unbelievably great? Just a good catch? Would that catch be made by any other receiver(s) in the NFL? I thought it was a great catch. I was thinking it was a sure fire interception, than, AB one hands the ball. I thought the safety is going to kill him but ended up glancing off him. For him to make the catch, stay on his feet and to score on the play, I thought it was pretty great. How many receivers you see miss a catch because the ball was slightly tipped?
October 16, 20179 yr The way that play went, the catch itself was like an underhanded lob. Off the deflection the ball slowed down and just floated there right in front of AB making it a pretty ease grab. Personally I would expect any NFL receiver to catch that ball. The rest of the play and scoring a TD, especially the acceleration and speed to score, makes it a very good play. I say average catch. Excellent run after catch.

Ball is thrown behind him, so he already is having to change his body position. Then it's tipped in the air, so now he has to get his eyes and hands back to following the ball, while also making sure he stops completely because if he takes a half more step forward the safety destroys him. So for him to run full speed, change his body position, come to a complete stop, have great enough hand eye coordinator to still reach out one hand to get the ball while the safety is running full speed at him is a great catch. Most wrs don't have the awareness to still stay focused on the ball and completely stop and reach that one hand out to get it while the safety is coming in at him. Plus with how quick it happened. I think the majority of wrs in the league don't even make that catch.

As soon as AB turned his route up he started slowing and looking for the ball. It looked to me like it was set up as a back shoulder throw if he was covered, so AB was already slowing down. He had eyes on the ball the whole way as he slowed down. The ball gets the speed taken off of it by the deflection, pops up in the air and floats there right in front of AB. He just sticks his hand up and pulls it in. Any NFL receiver who drops that ball is disgusted with himself. The stuff after the catch was good stuff. The catch was one every NFL receiver would make.

Also it wasn't a back shoulder throw. Brown had his guy beat BY 2 steps. Big Ben actually just made a poor throw and should have been picked. Brown did a great job realizing it right away. The majority of receivers do not make that play imo. Majority end up taking an extra step up field and end up getting drilled by the safety while going for the deflection and then falling incomplete with none of us ever thinking that it could have been caught. Browns quick thinking and just play making ability made him realize the only chance he had to make a catch and avoid getting hit was to reach out with one hand and bring it in while avoiding taking the hit. Only top receivers make that play imo.
October 16, 20179 yr Likewise, agree to disagree. I am not going to chew my cud again. I made my viewpoints in the post above.
October 16, 20179 yr Surprise no comments about Mitchell's low hit on Alex Smith yet. My Twitter timeline was full of them.

October 16, 20179 yr Some Steeler fan said he was blocked into Smith. SHowed it about five times today and no way he was blocked into Smith. Only player around him was another Steeler.
October 16, 20179 yr I lost my BGP league because of that catch. Got lucky last week and very unlucky this week. I can't believe that safety could not tackle him. He just stuck his head in there and did not wrap up.
