BluegrassPreps Class 2A Football Rankings (10/2) Discussion

Class 2A

School back in the 1950’s had less chalk than the Class 2A Top 10 last week. No team in the Top 10 took home a loss, but with that said, there was no shortage of drama. Danville retains the top spot and their unblemished record, but the Admirals needed a 4th Quarter comeback to take down 6A Tates Creek. Up next for Danville is Somerset, the Briarjumpers had a scare of their own in Raceland but pulled out the narrow three-point victory. The other big game on the slate for this week is the annual clash between DeSales and Christian Academy- Louisville as the Top 5 squads square off for District supremacy. Prestonsburg and Monroe County each secured big wins of their own to improve their potential playoff seeding, and this week Hancock County will attempt to shock Owensboro Catholic in District 2.

1. Danville at #6 Somerset

2. DeSales at #5 Christian Academy-Louisville

3. Lexington Christian Academy -- OPEN

4. Mayfield -- OPEN

5. Christian Academy-Louisville vs. #2 DeSales

6. Somerset vs. #1 Danville

7. Newport Central Catholic at Covington Holy Cross (10/7)

8. Walton-Verona at Trimble County

9. Glasgow -- OPEN

10. Owensboro Catholic vs. Hancock County

My opinion is this

1.DeSales

2.LCA

3.Danville

4.Mayfield

5.CAL

6.Newport Catholic Central

Why isn't NCC ahead of CAL?

In my opinion Because when they played, CAL was without starting quarterback.

I think DeSales has the best resume so far, with wins over the #6 team in 6A, the #6 team in 5A, and the #7 team in 3A, along with a quality win over 6A Ballard. That being said, I still think the defending state runner-up that returned a lot of that talent is deserving of #1. However, if the Colts were to add a win over CAL to their current resume, I would move them to #1. Just my two cents....

I think Danville has the best resume and the best win.

I think DeSales resume is better than Danville. Every team we have played has been ranked when we played them. I think the Butler win is a better win than Boyle County.

I would say that is debatable. Butler has only 2 wins vs teams with winning records. I think the same may be true for Boyle. Boyle's wins were big vs 4A #2 and #3 currently.

I think Danville has the best resume and the best win.

All of this is subjective, but let's take a closer look at this. What else am I going to do? Work?

Colts' best win - against 6A #6 Butler. Danville's best win - against 3A #3 Boyle County. Butler has wins over 6A #9 Manual and 5A #6 Fern Creek. Boyle has two good wins against 4A #2 Wayne County and 4A #3 Collins. This is the closest comparison, but I would give the advantage to the Colts.

Colts' 2nd best win - against 5A #6 Fern Creek. Danville's 2nd best win - against unranked Tates Creek.

Fern Creek has a win against 6A #9 Manual. Tates Creek has beaten up on some lower tier Lexington teams and Harlan County. Advantage Colts.

Colts' 3rd best win - a pummeling of 3A #7 Lexington Catholic. Danville's 3rd best win...Waggener?

Lexington Catholic has a win over Highlands. That doesn't mean AS much this year, but that's still a quality win. The Lafayette win doesn't seem that impressive either at this point. However, Waggener doesn't have a win that is even marginal, and they lost to Eastern, who is a lower tier team in Jefferson County. Advantage Colts.

DeSales also has wins over 6A teams Ballard and North Hardin. The Ballard win is easily the best remaining win between the Colts and the Ads. North Hardin is down this year and that was a running clock by halftime. However, those still appear stronger to me than Pulaski County and Garrard County. Advantage Colts.

The "best win" is somewhat debatable. However, the best resume, in my admittedly biased opinion, is not even close.

Danville has wins over 6A No. 7 Frederick Douglass and RV Tates Creek. DeSales has a win over 6A No. 9 Butler and RV (1 vote) Manual

Danville has wins over 3A No. 3 Boyle County and RV Waggener

Danville has a win over 4A No. 8 Knox Central

I would argue that Frederick Douglass and Boyle County are better than any win DeSales has.

We will see how this week's games impact this discussion. Both teams have difficult road games.

Wait...maybe I'm missing something. I was looking at Danville's schedule and I see them 5-0 with wins against Boyle County, Pulaski County, Waggener, Garrard County, and Tates Creek. I don't see Fredick Douglass or Knox Central. Am I looking at the wrong schedule?

Yeah something isn't right. They are 7-0.

I think most people on here would agree that Desales has the better resume. I'm sorry but beating Lexington schools, isn't that impressive. And I'm including our win over Catholic in that. I think LCA is by far the best team this year in Lexington.

This week, even without Carr, CAL is better than Somerset. Somerset has zero offense. And while their defense is pretty good, it's not as good as DeSales, or CAL.

All this is still in just good fun. I hope we get to meet Danville in Lexington, but we still have quite a few games ahead of us. The biggest being on Friday. It's all fun to pump up our teams, and compare this to that, but lets just keep taking care of business, and let the chips fall where they may.

Oops (stupid MaxPreps). Well I spent too much time on that to do it over. LOL!!! That definitely makes it a different conversation. See, I should have been working the whole time (the voice of my wife). Best of luck to the Ads Friday!
