This year CCH is very good, the best in NKY. However, when looking back over the last four years, Ryle never lost to CCH. Last years senior class at Ryle was 5-0 against them over their careers. I know that you said average in your quote but over the last four years prior to this one, there may not have been 4-5 CCH players that would have started for Ryle. Cooper and Conner might make a similar argument over the last few years. I do agree that Boone is spread out but school is to educate, not to build football powerhouses, although I like to watch good football powerhouses.

 

The Ryle seniors last year were an exceptional group of young men. They weren't a large class but they made a huge impact on the Ryle program for the years they were there.

Didn't Cooper beat CCH in the basketball region championship this year and play for a state championship?

 

Didn't Connor beat CCH in the 9th region baseball tourney this year?

 

Teams schedule CCH for competition, bragging rights, because they happen to be in the same region, and to get better in prep for the playoffs!

 

Kids come and go from different schools all the time. I know kids that have left Boone County for CCH and wound up at Highlands. I know others who have left CCH for Beechwood, Boone, and Cooper. The list goes on and on ...

Correct, but like I said the coaches are not going to change policy they deal with the hand they are dealt.

 

I do not see how Boone County Schools can have open enrollment when each school is already at maximum capacity.

You are naive if you don't think million dollar facilities can have an enticing influence on a 15 yr kid playing at an inner city school that resembles a trash dump.

 

I think schools that are committed to ambition and excellence in any field - whether academically, athletically, performing arts, community service, etc. - will attract students.

 

As a student or parent - why should the going-in expectation of a HS experience be that you won't have access to the best resources/opportunities, especially when there are accessible schools in the area that are capable of delivering more?

Exactly my point! You do not need to go the Beechwood/CCH to achieve academically.

CovCath's policy looks solid but I still would have a hard time allowing a school to administer drug tests to my child. Schools may say they have my child's best interests in mind but they will still put their interests above my child's. The trust factor, at least with one school they attended is way too low for me to have considered such a thing; especially with the Campbell Co. Police on site daily as resource officers.

 

I don't have a problem testing my kids myself though and have done so in the past.

 

I'm not a big fan of schools testing as well. But a private school has more freedom to do so. I would not be in favor of tax dollars going to randomly test someone.

 

Also a post above mentioned colleges should do it as well and in no way would I be for testing an average adult without cause.

For a child who is looking for outstanding academics AND athletics Beechwood is a great fit.

 

Likely CCH compares favorably to Beechwood academically - athletically that school is establishing itself as outstanding across the board. I understand the Catholic education creates a unique consideration - nonetheless CCH is undeniably a destination school.

 

Many long-standing Boone County residents seem to be satisfied with the overall experience Boone County Schools are offering.

 

Others drive 30-45 minutes to Ft. Mitchell or Park Hills each morning to drop their kid off.

 

And those kids are just athletes.

I think your post is exactly what I am saying.

 

Ryle football the last couple of years had an out of this world high school QB. Who is now at a Big 10 School.

 

Cooper had 3 maybe it was 4, D1 signed basketball/athletes on their roster.

 

Probably less than a hand full over the last 20 years that have left CCH to go to a Boone County school.

Look at the test scores, academic ratings and college placement stats for Beechwood (and Highlands for that matter). Boone County Schools benchmark against themselves - they are not on the same level as the incorporated school districts.

Overall test scores are a poor judge, IMO.

 

Look at the socio-economic breakdown of the schools when looking at test scores. Like I said tell me something being taught at Beechwood/CCH (not religion) that is not offered at Boone area schools.

 

And for some Beechwood/CCH is a shorter drive time wise from their house and more convenient.

Just one's opinion but I think it is naive to think kids are enticed to transfer to another school by playing against that school. I think it is safe to say by the time most kids get to junior high school' date=' them and their parents are well aware of the options in their area and what each option has to offer in way of academics, athletics, and any other extra activities and policies, such as a zero drug and alcohol policy, etc all schools have to offer. As a KY tax paying resident, I find it inexcusable all publicly funded schools including colleges do not have a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy. Same goes for private K-12 schools, but that is their prerogative, the risk they (without having a similar policy) take of loosing enrollment.

 

No doubt CCH (pretty sure the first NKY HS private or public to implement a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy) will see an increase in enrollment due to this policy.

 

If I read the policy correctly.

Test positive once have to get counseling. If you test positive for the same substance again it "may" be considered a second violation.

 

Outside of testing, what is different about their policy compared to other schools? Do schools really have a "pro" drug policy?

 

One thing that is nice for CCH is the ability to expel a student and deny them an education.

Why is it ok to talk about all the advantages or benefits of attending CCH/Beechwood, but then deny they exist?

You asked what these schools offered besides athletics.

 

I responded - “better academics outcomes.” Which is true - and meaningful to many parents.

 

The combination of academics and athletics is undoubtedly a draw to students and parents.
