No one has any real boundaries, just self-imposed ones.

Right on!!!! Every county in Kentucky treats attendance at public schools differently. Some have open enrollment. Some have reciprocal agreements with neighboring counties. Some have boundaries with exceptions allowed for attending a different school.

 

Every child at a private school is there by choice (parents, guardians, or students choice). They are ALL "lured" away from public schools per se. Not one has to be there.

Success "lures" more like-minded individuals. Opportunities for success in academics, athletics, or all sorts of activities attracts adults and students alike. The fact many private schools are succeeding reveals there are issues in the public system that may not be easily fixed. These may not be the fault of the public system but the situation screams for more attention. Read the Douglass website about the special programs set up at Lexington's newest school.

 

A gentleman I work with grew up in rural Wisconsin. The public high school has a better reputation for helping students achieve success. The Catholic school was not perceived as better or even equal to their public counterpart.

So in this era of middle school sports, AAU, and social media, are we really to believe that high school players are only realizing that a solid team has appeal because they finally see that team face to face on the field?

 

I'm sure that's why Valley doesn't schedule Trinity...Valley coaches don't want players to be enticed away by Trinity when the secret to get out that Trinity is good.

There is a conversation about who Cov Cath plays around Northern Kentucky in another thread, and there was a post made in there that says:

 

I do not understand why anyone would schedule them in the first place. All you are doing is giving them access to everyone in your community to "entice" future student athletes to attend their school.

 

Especially Boone County School systems teams that have closed enrollment. Do not give me the, only restricting yourself or just limiting yourself because of your own policy line either. The football coaches have to deal with the hand they are dealt and they are not going to be able to change school board policy. So, why go to CCH what is the benefit for NKY teams?

 

Same thing goes for scheduling Beechwood.
