Personally, I think Bowman, C. Schwalbach, Huddy, and Johnson should be playing both sides of the ball. Maybe not every play, but certainly more than 50%.

 

I agree. The only one I worry about on that list is Bowman because he is also doing kicking duties and that's where he's needed most is kicking and then LB. Offense would probably have to be situational but he's a hard noised runner and a great kid.

Definitely agree with that. He is very valuable as a kicker, and a better LB than RB. I'd love to see him in goal line or third and short situations - either as the carrier or a lead blocker.

Truthfully....if he gets hurt playing RB, it creates way more of an issue for our defense and special teams than it would benefit our offense.

 

Also, I'm about 95% sure he will kick on Saturdays at a minimum in a few years.

Beechwood's kicker never leaves the field. Plays wide receiver on offense and safety on defense. He kicked three field goals and put almost every kickoff into the end zone against Corbin last week. Just sayin.....

I guess I agree with that. I would have to have a somewhat serviceable back up in case of injury. I just think a really good kicker can change a game and you would worry about injury just like playing a QB on Def. You're argument makes sense though. If's he's good enough, play him, especially at a smaller school.

 

Honestly HHS needs to be playing any and every game changer they have right now even if they never leave the field. Send out a memo to the parents and tell them, we don't care if your name is on the school, "If you want Little Jr to play more, tell him to be better than the other kids, not just older."

It would be nice to see them both playing this Friday night but I'm not sure that's realistic(I hope I'm wrong). I think they may still need some time to get acclimated. Huddleston hasn't gone FULL HUDDY yet but he is in pads and Ahlfeld just got fully cleared yesterday.

 

Though, IMO, once they are up and going they should be both playing offense and defense. At this point, it need's to be about winning for HHS and both offer homerun capabilities that Highlands needs and could use on both sides of the ball.

If so, then IMO, that's a big problem.

Very much different, but a coach from another sport at Highlands did the same thing and sent an upperclassmen to the regional tournament over a more talented underclassmen. The next year, he apologized and said he shouldn't have done that and would send the most talented players to the tournament going forward.

Oh, I 100% agree with you. I don't think it's going to happen. It would just be nice to see them have a full compliment to help that defense that has been riddled with injuries and giving up too many points. Also, I wouldn't care if it was a Frosh, Soph, Jr, or Sr and if they showed up on Friday at 6:00 PM for the first time, if they could help me win they'd be playing that night if it was possible. LOL Jus sayin

IMO, it isn't just a football issue, like you said it happens in other sports. I think it's a culture thing in the fort maybe. The good news is, it definitely seems like they are playing more underclassmen this year than they ever have in the 10 yrs I've been around the football program. I think some of that is the pressure for BW to win NOW. Everyone run's it's programs differently and it's hard to knock the results of the past, but the past isn't always a predictor of the future. You have to be able to evolve and grow as the landscape and culture changes.

They 100% did it last year in football...there were much better underclassmen that didn't see the field because a senior had already put in his time. I still think it is happening in a few cases this year as well - but it isn't anything like last year IMO.

 

I also heard that back in the summer when football started, the coaching staff said "At this time, the seniors have the spot." Now, I obviously don't know if that is true, but it is was I was told from someone on the team.
