Sizemore and Lewis both have had tough breaks during senior year. I don't want either to return if any risk to long term health. Just isn't worth it.

The Devils will be fine but others have to step up in many areas. Both these kids brought talent and experience , especially Jacob in a safety and pass recieving roles.

I am thinking I misinterpreted this...but I don't see any back gaining 300+ yards in the playoffs against Belfry, let alone Russell scoring 48 points.

On a side note I really hope that Russell's schedule doesn't do to them what Belfry's did last year. The Pirates virtually went untested aside from Ironton, OH and come playoffs I felt it really became a hinderence after cakewalking through the playoffs until they played Russell. The end result was the uncharacteristic first half Belfry had (alot had to do with Russell being an excellent team). Do you guys see this easy district as posing trouble for the Devils down the road?

Big problem!! But what can you do? You have to play the games. I sure wish we could play Ironton right about now. Then play Johnson Central. That would get us ready. Bottom line. It's not going to happen. I think this reagular season schedule hurts Russell and Belfry both. Now keep in mind Ashland was a good game but to early in the season.

No you are right. Russell will not score 48 against belfry. I was just using that as an example of what would have to happen for Clark to rush for 300 + yards.

Big loss.

I can guarantee you that every senior gets in well before any frosh.

not my point

I believe Russell will use these games to seek out the right players for the job ahead they are still looking for the one's who are going to step up and make it happen and with the recent injuries that issue is even that much more of a task. But Russell will be ready come playoff time. They are deeper than most seem to think. There are some  that are just waiting to be turned loose.

I honestly don't see Russell making it to Louisville this season. The team seems to be lacking in the leadership area. Too many players seem to be focused on things besides football such as girlfriends, partys, etc. Also, several seem to have a poor attitude about what their job is every week. Instead of focusing on getting better as individual players and as a team each week in preparation for a playoff run, some seem to be only interested in that week's opponent and being good enough to beat them. No disrespect to the remaining teams on the schedule, but there isn't much in the way of competition. This year's team certainly doesn't seem to have the determination of the 2005 team. Hopefully, they can get their act together, but I doubt it.

I have to say I agree Goherd. Couple the lack in leadership with the injuries thus far and a game in December seems a stretch to me as well. I can't speak for the girlfriends and party distractions, but there just seems to be something missing when you compare this team to last year's squad. It's certainly an intangible, but I don't see the mental toughness with this team. I look back to the Ashland game, and so many opportunities were squandered. We should have never lost that one. And I don't compare that game to last year's Boyd Co. defeat as we were never in that game from the start. And I don't mean to take anything away from the Tomcats victory, I really felt like they wanted it more than us and that to me reflects lack of mental toughness. Add to the mix a weaker than ever district schedule and you have a recipe for a derailment somewhere in November. I hope they prove me wrong though.

I believe they possess what it takes the cream just HAS to rise. I agree need more physical play, mental toughness ....goes back to how bad do they want it.

I'm afraid that you are right - but, I hope not.

Vertually every player on this team has a ring on thier finger that reads state champion. I'm afraid that they just might be satified with that. It's like when you have a big win over an opponent and there is a let down. It is very hard to tell although. The injuries to key players always is a let down. Let's face it we have lost five starters on both sides of the ball. Sizemore on both sides. Lewis on both sides. Cornwell on defense.

I although believe that if we still have the talent on the field come November Coach McGloan and crew will find a way to get that desire back. If it is truely gone.

We at Russell love our Devils and want to see them do thier best on and off the field. I truely believe that one or two of the seniors on the team will step forward and rally the Devils.

It may indeed happen, but probably not until playoffs. These pastry games do little to encourage the "step-up" type of leadership we are talking about.

With Nick Lewis out how does that shake up the backfield. I would like to see Beekman move to half back and Wills move back to full back.

As far as intensity and leadership, no this years team doesn't seem to have the chip on their shoulder that they had last year. They have been in cruise control all season. I do think this team has the talent to repeat as champs but it is time to start playing with more of a purpose.
