FSU needs to fix some things.

After a tight first half, starting about the midpoint of the third quarter Alabama began to flex their might, especially with strong special teams play and on defense. FSU's defense was a bright spot, holding Alabama to two field goals and a touchdown despite repeatedly being asked to hold back the Crimson Tide when they were starting in Seminole territory.

 

I don't think hope is lost for Florida State if they were to have a rematch, but they obviously would have to improve by a decent amount more than Alabama to close the gap - particularly on special teams. For Florida State the health of Francois will loom much larger than the result. He got rolled up on a late sack and immediately grabbed at his left knee. It didn't look to me like he got hit from the side of any of the major red flag types, but his pain was evident and he left on a cart with an air cast around his leg. If he is out for the year, Florida State immediately drops out of the title picture in all likelihood.

 

For Bama, it's just doing what they usually do. They're just a machine - eternal under Saban. They get almost every player Saban wants, and they just know what to do with said talent. Any team that beats them will surely have earned a rare honor.

It really wasn't. Although I do feel they dominated the last quarter and a half in terms of whole game view. The battle between the Alabama offense and Florida State defense was completely even. Bama eventually got the better of them on the other side of the ball. They dominated Florida State's special teams for certain.

That's a top 5 defense for sure. I think both teams are vulnerable in the secondary though. But they only have to cover for 2 seconds so it doesn't show very often.

I guess what I'm saying (really what I'm HOPING) is that maybe it's more a knee sprain type injury that you can see with those rollups. When I see guys get hit from the side of the knee and do this, or if it's non-contact, that's when you know they're done.

 

Beating Miami in two weeks would be very difficult without him, but not impossible. Beat NC State qualifies similarly. But it is not impossible for them to tread water for the next seven weeks before playing Louisville when they more likely NEED to have him, because at that point they'll face the type of player that the defense can't hold up the entire time. If Francois could be back by then, then this season may still have a future. If he's done, I in no way see them beating Clemson, and even though Louisville looked rough tonight, I would consider that one highly in doubt as well. And that's assuming none of the usual FSU shenanigans in losing to someone they shouldn't.

 

Thank goodness the tough ones are at home other than Clemson.
