Somerset 66 Williamsburg 39

Featured Replies

No dig intended here, but this is the first high tempo offense that Williamsburg has seen this year. Hard to prepare for Deaton/Cole and the Jumpers at any rate, but no one on the early Williamsburg schedule had anything resembling what was faced friday night. The onslaught that Somerset can throw at you can put a defense on it's heels fast, especially if you're seeing it in real time for the first time. Now the next test is Harlan and their stiffling D. Williamsburg should fare a little better this coming week. Don't know if they'll beat the Dragons, but they'll do a lot better.

I know Harlan and LC have not played Somerset yet and I wish them luck but I believe its going to be a good battle for 2nd 3rd and 4th place.

Are you saying that these teams will be fighting for 2nd, 3rd and 4th?

But if Pikeville gave up 28 to Phelps it could end up 70-70.:thumb:

Hey, Pikeville only gave up 20 to Phelps.

Seriously, Pikeville has given up 101 points in 7 games.

Somerset has given up 246 points in 6 games.

Somerset has played a tough nondistrict schedule, but so has Pikeville.

Having said all that, no Class A team wants to get in a shootout with Somerset.

Somerset vs. Harlan should tell a lot about Somerset's offense AND defense.

Obviously, the region is wide open.

No..I'm saying they rest of the teams in the district are playing for 2nd 3rd and 4th..and its pretty wide open

Honestly I think Somerset's defense has to get A LOT better if they're going to win the region. I think they're making some strides, the last couple of games they've jumped out to a big lead and seemed to lose concentration and give up some big plays and about 3 of those scores came against their reserves. They did a better job against the run last night but there's still a long way to go. Until they concentrate and tackle better and quit giving up the big play I think Pikeville has to be the favorite in the region, but you never know what will happen on a given night with an offense as potent as they've displayed of late. I just hope that the Jumpers continue to improve and get a chance to play for the regional title. My bad about the 28 I had it in my head that Pikeville won 48-28 instead of 48-20:thumb:

I would exclude Danville from this statement. They would love to get in another shootout with Somerset.

Honestly, about the only way I can see Somerset losing in the district/region right now is coming across a grinding/physical team limiting Somerset's touches. Long drives, keeping the ball away from them on offense and forcing and capitalizing on Jumper mistakes. Lot of if's there, IF you ask me. :) Don't know if there's a team in the region capable of all this. Definitely the team to beat.

Congrats to the Jumpers on the win...

If Somerset and Pikeville both win their district and meet in the regional championship game, where would the game be played at this year?

Thanks...I think that is a very likey scenario...Good luck to the Jumpers in district play.

Somerset did a great job exposing the jackets youth in the secondary. Williamsburg did miss several opportunities, but that being said it would have been Somerset 66 W'burg 50...Somerset is the real deal and if they come up with a defense...wow!

That Cole Kid was very impressive, best WR I have seen in a while. After hearing scouting reports about other teams in the District I have to say that Somerset is easily the favorite to win the District and take either First or 2nd in Region...and I have to correct myself, the jackets committed one turnover on a half back pass from root.

Halfback or Fullback pass? Isn't Root a fullback? That's what he is getting credit for.

Sounds like both D's played well. :jump:
